I really can't comment on this, but I will anyway.
The fact is that I have not been in an airport, or on a plane, since September 5, 2001. Yes, that is 6 days before the tragic day of infamy.
It doesn't surprise me though what the lady went through. In the forty years I have been a Cowboy fan, whether it is was growing up in New Hampshire, my twenty years in the Navy, or down here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Philly fans all seem to have a universal signature:
1. They talk smack like the Eagles are the greatest thing since sliced bread. And they don't have skins on the wall to back up their imagined greatness.
2. They love it when an opponent is injured.
- It wasn't just the Irvin incident.
- 1990 A huge cheer came from the vet when the defensive end (Clyde Simmons) slams Aikman to the turf and separated his shoulder.
- Many times at sports bars, they have cheered for Cowboy injuries. "Here comes another pulled hammy for Emmitt!" Garbage like that.
3. When the Eagles are playing bad, they usually disappear. Either that, or they will say that they really don't care.
- Before Katrina wiped out the Sports Pub on the coast, there was this Eagle fan that was running his mouth before the game (I think it was the 2002 game where Dallas had the halftime lead in the Vet). I didn't see him the whole time Dallas had the lead. When the second half started, and Quincy Carter threw that early pick, a few moments later, here comes Eagle fan. He made his presence known for the erst of the day.
- And even today, the one girl I work with, all last year I constantly heard about 44-6. It was a long summer. So I reminded her a few week ago about 58-14 in their final two games. What do I hear?
"WHO CARES!"
She is not the only one.
BOTTOM LINE: Eagle fans just cannot take what they dish out.
I am rewatching the 1992 Divisional Championship game where the Cowboys killed the Eagles 34-10. One of my favorite all time games.
