One of my favorite plays was not on the highlight- the scramble to get us back into field goal range. While I am not a fan of run first QB's or read-option in the NFL, A QB that can make a nice run or two during a game to get the first or to get us into field goal range is a very nice option to have

I liked several things about Dak last night.

1) he had nice footwork on several dump off throws and placed the ball well for the receiver
2)on those dump off throws he was tackled after the throw, so there was pressure
3) I like that he tried to take advantage of the defense not being setup and throwing that quick out. Unfortunately we weren't set either and it was a penalty against us. But to me that is head's up thinking, showing field generalship
4) I like that he was a throw first QB, he wasn't looking to pull it down and take off running like most rookies do
5) when he did run he got enough yards to get into field goal position, he slid like a veteran qb. He didn't take any extra unnecessary pounding by looking for a few extra yards. You can't play if you are injured
6) his td throw to Williams is what you got to be able to do in the nfl
7)protected the ball

I was impressed. Excellent beginning for Dak!

That sound you hear is Cowboys Nation collectively breathing a sigh of relief.

Hell of a start for Dak. Most importantly on his end, it gives him a lot of confidence going forward, which is one of, if not the, essential ingredient in the stew that is mental makeup of a successful young quarterback.

Fwiw, I also liked Showers but I only watched 3rd quarter. That sack he avoided and then threw a bullet for the first was Romo resque, it was fun seeing Tony on the sidelines with a big smile after that. The talent around Showers was abysmal though so it's hard to judge. I'd give him a few series with the 1's next game after Dak gets a few himself.

Two things that jumped out at me, neither about Dak.
  1. Morris had a nice block on the first Dez catch at 0:20.
  2. Morris did a nice job selling the screen at 0:39, he acted like he wasn't sure who to block and just slipped between the defenders.

That was a thing of beauty. I'm hoping to see Showers get a chance with the starters next week. But Dak was on last night, that was some really strong work.

He did not break the pocket nearly as much as I expected and showed incredible poise.

Exceeded all expectations anyone could have possibly had.

He had some great NFL throws, but one thing I kept noticing, and it's an odd observation, is that he has a really good pace/touch on his screens and underneath throws. Some guys get some lollipop-type action or an overhand bullet that the RB/WR can't even get their hands on. Dak has some firm speed on them but they are well placed and catchable. With his play style and evasiveness, that's a nice trait to have. It's nothing to get super excited about, but an intangible that not every QB has.

The touch he tossed the screens with was very good and that is hard for a lot of QBs.

1 reason the Seahawks have been difficult to beat since Russell Wilson has been there is the dual threat of passing or running. Wilson is incredibly smart about when he runs with the ball, though. Most of his runs he uses sheer speed to get outside and up the sideline for some yards before running out of bounds.

If Prescott can demonstrate that same presence of mind, to know when to pull the ball down and take off and either get out of bounds or slide while getting yards, Defenses will have to honor that.

As Romo has gotten older and more injury prone, he's been more reluctant to run with the football, something the defenses key on. This has led to instances where Romo could've gained 1st downs with a 4-5 yard run and slide but he's opted to throw the ball down the field instead, leading to dropped passes or interceptions. While Romo has definite strengths, this is 1 of his weaknesses. Cases where a simple run and slide would've gotten the job done, but he seems averse to risking it.

When Dak takes over, defenses will have to adjust and realize if they leave a soft spot over the middle, he will take off and get those easy yards. The way he expertly slid at the end of that run shows me he's been drilled on getting down before contact, something that makes me think a lot of young QB's have learned from watching what happened to RGIII's career.

Not necessarily true - the last sentence. Dak has always been a pass-first quarterback. I watched his entire career.

Dak was actually perfect tonight...Swaim dropped his only two incompletions.
Swaim dropped two EASY balls too. He's going to have to do a lot more to make the team. You can't be out there in preseason dropping drag routes wide open in the flats.

Naaa.... probably just gout.
Blimey! You bring me those 30 pounds of liver and Walmart beer left over from the mikvah party you and jobber threw last week and then you tell me that? I need to ask the medic. Thanks for the gout-inducing munchies, you gout spreading Arkansan!
Do not speak to me for a week. I am sitting Shiva for the former UT football program.

Long ball? Did you kit see his TD throw to T-Will? I know it's not a 75 yard through the air bomb, but his touch was amazing on that throw.
I believe the lad has potential. But so did Quincy his first couple of starts.
I used to be quite the optimistic sort, making my signs that said CAMP CAMPO POWER!! and Quincy Quintuplets Ring! And who can forget PELLEUR POWER!!! Blokes?
That said, I am eager to see Dak again soon.
