I do agree that ST's is more than just run down and hit somebody.
But there is some middle ground. Do you really want to make the point that being a ST's coach is as complex as being an offensive or defensive coordinator? I'm not buying that.
Am I saying ST coaches can never become HC's? Obviously not. But its not the traditional pathway. And my original point was that DeCamillas is not more qualified than Garrett, not that DeCamillas couldn't do it.
On the other hand the criteria you look for in a ST coach has some significant differences to the criteria for a HC.
- Hands on versus results through others, delegation, follow-up etc.
- Talent evaluation. ST's coach often gets "handed" his players. HC with Jerry has significant player input.
