From my experience, it's hard to judge the condition of any field without physically walking/running on its surface, making cuts, etc.

My opinion too. How "pretty" it looks doesn't tell you anything.

Well, to be fair, both teams have to play on that crap. All we can do is wish for good luck.

Maybe we should look for a slant to Williams for 70 yards.

I remember I was absolutely froze on that play. I never screamed or yelled or jumped around - I was just paralyzed until the TD - then I drank and danced ll night long and I'm a pretty bad dancer.

So how come nobody has a problem playing in Oakland on half a football field, and most of the Athletic's infield? That transition is more dangerous than the turf at Levi's Stadium. This is flat ground with grass, with some thin spots. Not a big deal people!

Open sodded patches, noticeable seems and roots look fine to you for million dollar athletes to be paying on? That field doesn't look anywhere near level. They need to quit screwing around and just put down field turf.

The whole thing was sodded patches. They put it out 2 weeks ago for the season. Of course you are going to seams on a new field. Broaddus walked the seam and I didn't notice it pulling apart, plateauing, or with divets.

That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't going to disintegrate into chunks or slide, but for a field that is two weeks old it looks pretty good to my eye. I was expecting worse.

It was the dagger that put the game out of reach for the Niners. At that point, I knew the Cowboys were going to the Super Bowl and their opponent would be easier to beat than the Niners at Candlestick.

I think I yelled something along the lines of: "**** the Catch!"

I can't stop laughing - that was great. I know exactly what you felt like.

Because they didn't have to play a real NFL team in Oakland.

The field looks kind of good as long as they wear short cleats. Big cleats could catch and dig causing some twisting in the ankles and knees. Hell, I would make the players wear tennis shoes! lol

While I agree that both teams have to play on this surface; I find it laughable that the NFL institutes all these rules for player safety and then allows a meaningless game to be played on this garbage of a field.

This isn't really comparable, but I remember back in the 1990's when they actually cancelled a preseason game because the artificial turf was coming apart. I can't recall if it was at the old Vet in Philly or the Astrodome in Houston, though.

I think a game in the Vet was cancelled. Not sure if it was preseason or a regular game?

I think there's 2 issues that answers that. A) This is a preseason game that really doesn't matter. B) People have been complaining about Oakland for so long without anything being done they probably just gave up.

There's a multitude of NFL fields that are completely garbage. Washington, Philly, Oakland, Green Bay and probably a lot more. If the NFL was really about player safety and not lawsuit protection they would address issues like this.

I think it was preseason. Imagine the Eagle fans that spent the whole day getting drunk and then the game gets called off.

The Cowboys probably really cancelled the field thing, to just get the hell out of there! The Brotherly Love thing....lol eagle fans are crazy!

Now the Cowboys have to go to SF and deal with all that again? I like this team going on the road. Other teams like to come down and play on a real football field and still get hurt. That's football.
