Romo sits down with Michael Irvin

By dcfanatic, December 3, 2009 11:52 pm

Here's a glimpse at the sit down with Tony Romo and Michael Irvin that will air in it's entirety on Sunday...

Said it a million times already. Terrell Owens had to go if Tony Romo was ever going to be the leader of this football team.

And you need the QB to be the leader of the football team.

Is Deion the biggest dooshbagel in the country, or what? I challenge someone to find a bigger one. Rampage doesn't count.

I dont know if the QB needs to be the leader of the team, but whoever the leader may be needs to have the mindset of Tony Romo, not TO.

The Giants won a SB in 07 and prior to the 08 offseason Eli had some of the most questionable leadership qualities for a starting QB in the league.

The problem with TO was that he was so insecure that he could never admit his shortcomings. Marshall Faulk talks about QB's kickers, etc having weak psyche's, TO is one of the most insecure football players in the league.

I told my bro as I was watching this that I would pay $1 mil to have one shot at drop kicking him thru the Total Access set in the background.

Marshal Faulk made a great point, when the QB is having a bad day a player needs to have his back. That was not the case with TO, if Romo or McNabb or Garcia ever had a bad day, TO was at the podium after the game saying "we would have won today if the QB would have got me the ball".

Never once did I hear TO step up and take one for the QB. Contrast that with Witten, when Romo threw a bad pass in Pittsburgh last year and it was intercepted and returned for a TD in the closing mins of the game, did Witten say it was Romo's fault???

Hell no, Witten was the first guy to stand up and say "it was on me, I slipped coming out of my break". Now we have no way of knowing if that was true or not and from the replay it looked like the ball was way off target and probably would have been intercepted regardless of Witten did or did not slip. However, that is not the point. The point is Witten fell on the sword to protect his QB.

Now, compare these two players reactions to bad plays by the QB and tell me which guy you are going to throw the ball to in crunch time?? You going to throw the ball to the guy that is going to throw you under the bus or you going to throw the ball to the guy that will fall on the sword for you???

No surprise Romo started favoring Witten and then TO's insecurities come to the surface and he starts thinking Romo and Witten are drawing up secret plays just between the two of them and he causes a media firestorm over it.

Now is everybody starting to get the picture of why TO had to go????

You mean like when TO was on the podium crying about "That's my quarterback"? lol

And you need the QB to be the leader of the football team.

And they got rid of Dilfer who was the leader of that team whether he was a great player or not.

They did not get back to the Super Bowl over the next few seasons even though their defense was great for like four of five years.

Dilfer was not a leader of that team over Ray Lewis.

Not even close. If it was close Dilfer would have never left.

But generally the axiom that you want the QB and need the QB to be a leader is correct.

That Ravens team however was all defense, special teams and running game.

Dilfer did nothing but hand off. As much as I like Dilfer's current Cowboys takes and willingness not to buy into riling up Cowboys fan merely for ratings, he is one of the worst QBs to ever win a Super Bowl.

I don't often comment on T.O. anymore because he is gone and I'd rather not see a million T.O. threads or takes.

For me end result is this: T.O. is like a really hot ultra popular sorority girl. They look good from afar, you are happy as can be when you first connect, but in the end the high maintenance routine makes life miserable.

T.O. isn't a bad guy or a malicious one but he can obviously be petty, he clearly thinks the offense should run through him and he definitely thinks only himself can win games for his team.

When that hot sorority girl is gone there will times you miss her but mostly you'll be thankful you are not dealing with the drama.

I heard and Read that Dilfer was much more of a leader with Ravens than outside world knew or Media knew. Apparently he was the guy who kept the Offense and Defense together and managed the Egos. They missed that once he was let go. Apparently thats where Ravens miscalculated the impact of Dilfer.

As far as QB who played in a SB was worst, it has to be hands down Ben Rothlisberger. But Ben played great till the SB though, so he gets a pass there. Not sure Trent Dilfer is in the same category as Jeff Hostetler though.

I liked Romo's answers. Made alot of sense.

Deion was right about Roy though. He has done a little "TO" to Romo since he got here. Last year too.

I agree. Unfortunately, even though Ray Lewis might be the heart of the team, when the game's on the line and you're down 6 points and need a TD to win, the whole team isn't on the sideline hoping for a Ray Lewis pick-6...they're probably rallying behind Joe Flacco.

Deion's wrong. TO is his boy and he used his interview to springboard the whole criticism of the offensive coordinator and the QB as if TO wasn't out there dropping balls and getting alligator arms.

Irvin > Deion.

As much of friend Irvin is of TO, even Irvin says, TO pretty much had to go. Now he still thinks Cowboys should have kept TO, but at the same time, he understands why TO is not here.

But not so with Deion. Neon Deion is always about him and his buddies. He has said so many times, team chemistry is bull and stars are what wins championships. And Hence the only two cowboys I ever hated were Nine Toed Deion and TO.

Would you rather listen to Deion speak..........

Or Emmitt speak?

Emmitt sounds like he played his whole career without a helmet.

Romo: Cowboys are a desperate team, too
10:17 AM Fri, Dec 04, 2009 | Permalink | Yahoo! Buzz
David Moore/Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips

The Cowboys have fielded questions all week about facing a desperate New York Giants team.

Tony Romo turned that question around.

"We're desperate now too,'' the Cowboys quarterback said. "This is absolutely the most important game of the season. This is very big, and we understand that.

"This is an important, important game and stretch for us. We've got to go up there in a tough environment and play really sound, good football to have a chance. But I suspect our team will be very ready for this.

"We feel very prepared for this game.''

True, but he doesn't overshadow the team like T.O. did.

It's one thing if the whippy kid in the class complains about too much homework. It's another if the honor student complains.

T.O. is a leader - for good or for bad. Roy Williams is not. So no one really pays attention to his complaining. Besides, he doesn't have any ... street cred. ;)

The problem with Deion is the problem with Randy Moss. Both are so IMMENSELY TALENTED that they really don't understand what it is to work hard.

Deion and Moss, two of the best players to ever play the game, got by on talented alone. So it's no shock that they gravitate to the star mentality - Deion to the 49ers and Cowboys, Moss to the Patriots.

If those two had the work ethic of Jerry Rice, they probably would own all the record and could probably be playing into their 40s also.

The thing about Deion is that he's not trying to be serious all the time. I don't think Emmitt has a funny bone in his body. That makes his "ignorance" all the more appalling. Deion has mastered the Terry Bradshaw school of broadcasting, don't take yourself so seriously that way your ignorant utterances come of as gaffes or playful buffoonary.
