When Jerry came up with that term a few days ago I was thinking about what it meant.

I still don't think anyone can lock down the actually meaning of the term, but Bob Papa who is the NFL Network's Play-by-Play guy had a pretty good idea about what it should mean...

I can get down with that plan. If Jason Garrett wants to make the Cowboys offense 'Romo Friendly' he should look to get the ball out of the kids hands faster and into the hands of the skill position guys so they can go to work. So that means slow down on calling 24 deep passes a game JG!

And the Cowboys have three solid RB's in the fold so they should look to run the ball first and throw the football when the right opportunity presents itself. There is no excuse for the Cowboys offense playing so poorly at times last season, but you have to admit that without a Felix Jones on the field the offense changed a whole lot even though he only got to play in the first six games.

We also got a nice preview of what Tashard Choice is capable of doing so he's no longer a question mark.

There is one injury we had last year that I do believe was a factor. Felix Jones. If we can bother to use him, he's that outlet for a scrambling Romo. He's the one that is going to take passes away from Romo by carrying the ball a little more. I have no doubt we saw Brad Johnson throwing little hitches to him in practice and felt we could do that with him for a few games.

And yes, shortening the pass routes would really really help. Right now we have to big WRs who could excel with shorter, quicker routes. No more of these passes that take too long to develop. We aren't built that way on the line to pass protect like that.

Seems pretty dead-on to me. I'm much more of the school of run to set up the pass than vise versa.

While I agree with you for the most part.

IF... the big IF... we executed, caught the balls, delivered the ball better, blocked better, make coaching adjustments etc....

THEN

FOR US

passing to set up the run could have worked - whenever we WANTED it to.

I think it would be "What does Romo friendly mean?"
yeah, that would be an allusion to the ever-famous "what do voluntary mean?" quote of yesteryear, not a grammatical error.

I'd agree w/ that too. I'd really like to see Dallas go to more timing-routes, similar to what we did in the early 90s.

You wanna make this offense more Romo friendly? Draft some linemen that will push our bigs to not be as complacent and lethargic as they looked down the stretch last year.

And I don't believe Kyle Kosier's injury was 100% of our offensive line's futility.

I think it means a bit more ball control type offense. Dallas has no problem being a quick strike team we hit many big plays but in bigger games against better teams those big plays become harder to make.

I think it means exactly that. Getting the running game going more often and more effectively. Allowing Romo to use some of the shorter to medium routes and taking only 2-4 deep shots a game (depending on how good the running game is going).

This would allow Romo to get the ball out quicker and help cut down on the O-Line not being able to pass protect for him long enough.

I agree I also think running the ball helps to establish a more aggressive mindset with O-lineman. Most lineman will say they like run blocking because they become the aggressor while in pass protection you are defending more than attacking. (exception, Eric Williams he attacked all the time) :laugh2:

It means the owner and HC not cutting off the OC's knees in public.

Perhaps they should back their coaches over players.

Just saying....

Romo friendly to me is taking a page out of Todd Haley's Cards offense last year. Yes we don't have Fitz, but they used a lot of short crossing patterns, and quick get the ball out routes. They had NO running game to speak of and they rode that horse all the way to withing 2 minutes of winning the SB.

We have a running game........well.......or at least the backs, but somebody still has to coach Romo into checking down. If Brad could have taught Romo anything it would be the checkdown.

The problem with our O last year IMO was that TO couldn't get off the line (obvious) and both wideouts would be running deep routes. This offense since Aikman has always been about timing. The receivers were never there when they were suppose to be. That left your 3rd receiver running the underneath stuff and he wasn't quick enough to get away from corners.

Protection broke down waiting for somebody to get open....and the there is Romo running for his life. Everybody bags on Romo, but could you imagine running this O with Bledsoe, or even Warner for that matter? Can you say bodycast!!!!

Less slow developing passing plays

That is what I am hoping for. Romo has a quick release we need to take advantage of it more.

Getting the oline to block for him wouldnt hurt either.

Yep.

I dont get whats happening.

That offense... with those players... should be putting up record numbers.

A timing offense that executed. We would ALL be happy... not just Owens ;) Its his bread and butter-ed(popcorn)
