This. I keep seeing people say they won’t have an OC (even tho jerry actually said they would) or that the OC won’t have a real job (even though schottenheimer and mcadoo are 2 guys McCarthy trusts) and completely ignoring that even though Mike will call plays he’ll still collaborate on stuff with the coordinatorPlaycalling is just one responsibility, you still need at least an OC.
You mean you still have to gameplan even if the head coach calls the plays ? LolMost teams that have head coaches who call plays also have an OC. Rams do, Green Bay does. A lot goes into formulating a game plan.
If you don't think Moore was a scapegoat I have some oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you.Moore wasn't the scapegoat he left on his own.....Offensive Coordinator does more than just calls plays. A head coach needs a offensive coordinator.
I understand your position but I also understand the issue of opportunity. It's not just at coordinator and HC positions and the stats are something I cannot just ignore.Silliness. A franchise should have the freedom to pick whoever they want. It doesn't fight anything at all. All of these teams forced to interview one minority. That's the last thing I would find imortant. Pandering to minorities instead of hiring on merit ruins the product.
If a guy is a good coach, he's a good coach. Simple.
Now they have to almost humor the league, interview guys they may not have had interest in and that never gets hired.
They tried Nolan and replaced him the next season, what else would you like? Of course coaches hire people they're familiar with. The idea that they still fired him tells you the theory on nepotism is false.
Now the front office is different. That's all family.
Like every team in the NFL has probably done.This. I keep seeing people say they won’t have an OC (even tho jerry actually said they would) or that the OC won’t have a real job (even though schottenheimer and mcadoo are 2 guys McCarthy trusts) and completely ignoring that even though Mike will call plays he’ll still collaborate on stuff with the coordinator
I get ya, I just don't think that way is all. Best man/woman for the job. No special treatments or special circumstances for one group and not another. It would different if it were measurable, but teams shouldn't be told who they can interview and hire. And all a team has to do is interview a guy and hire who they were going to. So, it seems more for optics. Like there's no issue with a vastly lopsided folks playing football. Do they make teams draft and sign a bunch of white dudes?I understand your position but I also understand the issue of opportunity. It's not just at coordinator and HC positions and the stats are something I cannot just ignore.
that's such a silly and corny analogy.I get ya, I just don't think that way is all. Do they make teams draft and sign a bunch of white dudes?
Whatever. My opinion is my opinion.that's such a silly and corny analogy.
Your opinion wasn't what I called out, you can feel how you feel about the Rooney Rule or how hiring is conducted. We can disagree (and I do) that's fine. The analogy is dumb though. The draft is as close to a meritocracy as you can get.Whatever. My opinion is my opinion.
Wait till you find out that most offensive head coaches call their own plays and also have OCsWhy are they interviewing OC's? Is he going to hold McCarthy's clipboard? Pick up his drycleaning? Wash his car during practice?
McCarthy is now the OC. He's calling the plays. It will be his offense. His play designs. They have already drummed out Moore as a scapegoat. Are they now setting up another one?
What I mean is the head coach has a lot of responsibilities so even if he’s the play caller he can’t also double as OC and needs help formulating the game plan. You mean you still have to gameplan even if the head coach calls the plays ? Lol
the Rooney Rule does not prevent that from happeningIt’s attempt to fight nepotism and guys like mike Nolan getting late in life gift contracts from old pals ..
They won’t be able to hire a real OC either even if they wanted one. They haven't interviewed any OCs. They're not looking for a real OC.
Yeah I don’t think anyone overrates it. We all wanted Odell because we needed more int he receiving game. And since when did Jerry start making moves based on what fans here wanted? If he did Garrett wouldn’t have got 10 years. It’s already come out that Moore always wanted to leave to go to the Chargers probably explains some of his silly play calling. If you don't think Moore was a scapegoat I have some oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you.
He knew from all the fan sites like this one and especially inside the Star that they were pointing fingers at him for their own failures in player acquisition and development. So he bolted from this circus in Dallas, looking for sanity.
The offensive talent on this team is so overrated, it's laughable. Especially by fans. What he accomplished in this dysfunctional organization borders on a miracle.
He will thrive with Herbert and the Chargers. Meanwhile, Jerry will try to find the next Noah Brown and sell him as the next offensive star. And fans will buy it hook, line and sinker
And coaching is not, that was my point.Your opinion wasn't what I called out, you can feel how you feel about the Rooney Rule or how hiring is conducted. We can disagree (and I do) that's fine. The analogy is dumb though. The draft is as close to a meritocracy as you can get.
Kind of like that guy Wade had for awhile as DC, who they scapegoated too. They haven't interviewed any OCs. They're not looking for a real OC.
