Broaddus does his fair share of complaining about Doug Free, actually.
I know better than to stroll into this tarpit with you, but I do think that there's a schism between people who think you can win with players like Doug Free at RT and those who apparently think you cannot.
This thread was not intended to be about how Free's ability per se.
I just wanted to discuss the media and how they often control the narrative. Anybody that spends much time watching "film" (All-22 video) knows that Free has a lot of problems and is not remotely close to being as good as Tyron. I'm certain the media guys know he is not that good, but they defend him anyway. The Cowboys media guys invented that nonsense about him being this great leader and now. A large contingent of fans blindly follow the media narrative like the Eloi lining up to be eaten by the Morlocks.
I've thought about this before, but when I heard Brad Sham say "well he's not quite as good as Tyron" I almost ran off the road with laughter.
I've noticed it because I obsess about everything OLine, but they probably do it with other players and I just have not paid attention.
As I said in the OP, there were media guys dogging on Rolando McClain the day he arrived. Mike Fisher in particular is obsessed with him.
The media also drove the narrative about Greg Hardy. They dogged on him so much that I thought certain that something drastic would be revealed after he departed but it turns out that all he did was challenge Garrett and knocked a clipboard out of the ST coaches hand. Nothing ever came out about him doing drugs while he was here or anything like that. Marinelli obviously loved him based on comments he made this off-season.
It does seem obvious that the local media has been told not to dog on Dez. The radio guys briefly mentioned his missed meetings a few times to guys like Broaddus, Mickey, etc. and they said "no comment". Even one of the radio guys said "I don't don't want to get into trouble" for bringing up this topic.
