The Patriots are seriously considering not signing him?

I can't believe that, but when I saw this, I instantly thought, this is our nose tackle.

I've wanted us to have Vince Wilfork since we went to the 3-4. This dude is the prototypical 3-4 nose tackle.

Imagine

Ware - James - 2010 Draft - Spencer
Ratliff - Wilfork - Olshansky

I think a lot of people believe a nose tackle is the last piece of the puzzle for our front seven. And let ratliff play in a more natural position. I'm sure people would argue that we would have to pay Wilfork too much, or why move Ratliff. But his ability to pass rush on the end would be so much next to Wilfork.

Dont forget Merriman!

Oh.... and maybe we can get Brandon Marshall from the Broncos.

Maybe we can swing a trade for Adrian Peterson while we are at it.

Ah heck...

Why don't we just go get the entire 2009 NFC pro bowl roster?

Why not the alternates too while we're at it! Imagine the possibilities!

WE AREN'T SIGNING ANYBODY ELSE THIS YEAR EXCEPT WARE, unless it's some backup receiver due to all the injuiries at that spot....

I don't think this is about this year.

Wilfork will likely be allowed to shop himself in free agency in 2010 if the Patriots are pleased with Ron Brace.

I would be all for making a strong run at him as a free agent.

Uncapped year or not signing Wilfork would be a huge asset to this front seven. We could allow Spears to walk and use some of his salary toward Wilfork. Ratliff could move to LDE, even though he may not prefer it he would do it for the team.

I imagine that Wilfolk will want more money than a 3-4 nose tackle is really worth.

Is the NT important in the 3-4? Of course. However, it's not really a position a "game changer" plays and Wilfolk will probably want game-changer type money.

Dude, there isn't going to be an uncapped year. That's just never going to happen

Wilfork is a player!

I would love to have a nasty guy like that on the DL... The trenches are where the real battles are won and lost!

Why move a guy away from a position where he's already one of the best in the league?

Because people like to think that he's the sole reason we have trouble stopping the run up the middle.

I don't even understand why they think we have trouble stopping the run. It's just a weird criticism of the defense. And it's weird to want to move or rest Rat, who's one of our very best players.

If they have a chance to get him, of course. But he's going to get a lot of offers if they do let him hit free agency. Miami should be involved since Ferguson is getting up there in age and his contract will be up also.

Its about making the whole defense better. Anytime you can add a high- caliber NT to the 3-4 it makes sense. It is not a slight on Rat, since he is so talented he can be moved and still compete at a high level.
