Its about making the whole defense better. Anytime you can add a high- caliber NT to the 3-4 it makes sense. It is not a slight on Rat, since he is so talented he can be moved and still compete at a high level.

Well, I understand the reasoning. I just don't agree that you take a guy out of a position where he's one of the very best at what he does and is at a young age and move him someplace with a very different set of responsibilities and hope that he's as good or better. You could very well end up weakening two positions and hurting your cap in the process.

Dude, I wrote Uncapped year or Not? Since we dont know, I acknowleged both possibilities. Thanks!

Actually, we can use our brains to see that it aint gonna happen. It is just a bargaining chip that never ever plays out.

The Patriots are seriously considering not signing him?

I can't believe that, but when I saw this, I instantly thought, this is our nose tackle.

I've wanted us to have Vince Wilfork since we went to the 3-4. This dude is the prototypical 3-4 nose tackle.

Imagine

Ware - James - 2010 Draft - Spencer
Ratliff - Wilfork - Olshansky

I think a lot of people believe a nose tackle is the last piece of the puzzle for our front seven. And let ratliff play in a more natural position. I'm sure people would argue that we would have to pay Wilfork too much, or why move Ratliff. But his ability to pass rush on the end would be so much next to Wilfork.

Pats are one of the smartest organizations in the league, if they are letting him go you dont walk away from him, you run.

And once again, we have a probowl NT.

The guy's a dirty player. Pass.

I expect Wilfork is too rich for our blood (and we have a probowl NT) but the idea that we don't need dirty and nasty.... sheesh. Ya, last thing we'd want to do is intimidate an opponent.

Oh brother. I'm talking about "intentionally" injuring people, not the "dirty and nasty" type.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Go watch our last NFC Championship game and tell me if our OL didn't "intentionally" take out Jurkovic's knee. I enjoyed every second of it.

Williams in particular would go for the knees quite a bit as a last resort.

I have no access to that data, and whether "they" did still has no effect on my opinion. I guess "karma" came around for Erik if he did that. I don't want dirty players on my team, and Wilfork is one of them.

I like Vince but I can't see this happening for a couple reasons. He's going to want far too much money and there is simply no way to justify paying him that money to share the position with Jay.

That was pretty clear judging from Jurko's reaction.

I always thought it was cool how he was so pissed that he limped back to the locker room, refusing help the entire way.

They wouldn't share the position(if it happened). Instead of a Olshansky-Ratliff-Spears lineup they would have a Olshansky-Wilfork-Ratliff lineup which would be quite an upgrade.

I'd say no to quite a few Free Agent's that people are throwing out there, but considering the absolute need for depth in this position, Vince Wilfork would be awesome.

Dude seriously? What a FAIL on using the "this ain't madden" post. I don't know why you guys are thinking it's dumb for Rat to move over. Vince Wilfork is a baller and a complete game changer. Whoever said he wasn't obviously does not know how football works. He makes things happen for the linebackers and a complete monster against the run. Imagine him on our defense. He's the missing peice.Steelers,Pats,Ravens. All the legit 3-4 defensive teams have a Wilfork.

Screw Rat if he wants to whine about moving to DE. It's in the best interest for him and the team. If he wants to whine and be a big baby then GOODBYE. He actually pisses me off when he refuses to play DE. Ratliff is a very flawed NT in a 3-4 scheme. He's better coming off the edge. If he wants to play NT on 3rd and long then that's fine but Wilfork is a force to be reckoned with.

Man that's a bit rash on pitching Rat to the woodshed. I'm sure that's not his attitude at all. He's the kind of guy that toes the company line I'm sure. He has a right to say that he wants to stay at his position because actually he is pretty good at it. Don't get me wrong, I wished we had a monster NT like the teams you mentioned. Casey Hampton, Haloti Ngata, or Vince Wilfork would be just fine with me but truth is we don't have them so we must press on with what we have.

He wore down the stretch and wasn't nearly affective. If anything he hurt the team the last few weeks because he was so drained. I love how he gives 110% on every play but you have to look at what's best for the team. The truth is that he isn't strong against the run. His body takes a beating on every play trying to take on two guys. Here's where I think he can excel even more: If we can get a big NT stuffer like a Wilfork then Ratliff can come in and play NT on third and long or sometimes 2nd and long so he can still have some NT playing time. Other plays he's best suited as DE.
