He may be healthy now, but lets see how healthy he is at the end of the season, when he realizes just how bad the skins suck

Yea and that was with Greg Williams calling the shots on "D".... how will that change this season with a new d-coord?

Too many questions, Sonny!

Honestly, very little is going to change on defense. Greg Blanche moves from "Defensive Coordinator/D-line Coach" to Defensive Coordinator. John Palermo steps in a D-line coach. All other coaches, as well as the system, remain in place.

I'd be far more worried if Blache had not been a d-coordinator earlier this decade with the Bears and did not produce a top 10 defense there as well. Oh he also was a coach with the Skins last year

Not really worried about coaching. More worried about if McIntosh and Rogers can come back and play at a high level. Those 2 guys are huge question marks as far as I am concerned

Blache's record with the Bears isn't very good. I think the loss of Williams will hurt. We'll still be a better-than-average defense, but I don't expect to be top 5 anymore.

I'll go out on a limb and say you'll rank between 12th and 18th. Growing pains.

nothing much will change on D other than you getting weaker on the line in defending against the run

the line stopping the run, and clogging up lanes, was a big part of your defense's success

Wouldn't surprise me at all, considering you have 3 starters from last season's opener either not 100 percent or dead

Jason Taylor will have an impact on the pass rush, and despite everyone's opinion here, will play just fine against the run. Your boy Laron Landry will be a year better

Will that make up for 3 starters (who each had pretty good seasons up to the point they were playing), well I am not too sure

This is true.....and Williams was great at calling run and pass blitzes.

The Skin's defense reminds me of the ones we had early in the decade. We always were near the top statistically. But it wasn't really dominating. We didn't produce sacks or turnovers.

We just didn't really dominate games....we simply slowed it down.

I actually don't see how this works for the Deadskins. Both of their defensive ends will be a little over 250 lbs. Teams are going to run all over them!

Really? The loss of one player is going to transform a unit that held the #1 rushing team in the league last year to 76 yards to a defense that teams are going to "run all over?" How so?

I didn't realize Phillip Daniels was so special! Silly me!

You're really underestimating the importance of GW. He was absolute key to your D. He was extremely aggressive, intellegent, and knew how to compensate for your weaknesses. GW had the utmust respect from his defensive players and the entire team, that was even more obvious from the disappointment of the players when he wasn't choosen as HC. Well, he's now in Jacksonville. HUGE loss for your defense!!! I don't care how long Blache coached under GW or if yall are running virtually the same D as GW or not, BLACHE ISN'T GW. PERIOD!!!!!!

Your secondary will get beat like a drum. Springs, your best CB is old, injury prone and we saw how TO just flatout ABUSED him in BIG D. Rogers is coming off major knee surgery and actually sucks even when healthy, Smuut is avg at best. Landry is very good and aggressive but has to stop making boneheaded personal fouls in crucial situations. Kid has game though. Hell, I don't even know your other safety, Dougherty or something like that. The death of ST, may he R.I.P., makes your secondary avg at best.

Your LB's are in trouble too. Fletcher, who is very good is what, 65yrs old. McIntosh is coming off major surgery and Washington is getting old and stays hurt as well. His play dropped off last year too.

Your Dline scares nobody and thats with a 34yr old JT who has one foot in retirement and headed to Hollywood. Both him and Carter are light in the arse and will get pushed around in the physical NFC East. Pop in the tape of the Boyz n Miami last year and watch BIG Flo absolutely DOMINATE JT. He's gonna find out real quick that the NFC East is much more physical then the AFC. The loss of GW and the issues that I just listed are major and will be devastating to your D this year. I'm sure you'll disagree and thats cool but just be around during the season. It's gonna be fun, I can't wait!!!:laugh2: Oh yeah, by the way,:suxskins: .

I'd really like to see a Taylor vs. Emmitt dance off. The Skins-Boys rivalry would reach new heights.

Okay, question. Why would the Skins move Taylor to the left side rather than the far inferior and bigger Carter?

Maybe even though he's bigger, Carter is worse against the run?

Carter had 55 tackles last year -- so I don't think he's as horrible as some say.

This was posted on Commanders.com by Gary Fitzgerald:

During 2-minutte drills, Jason Taylor came in for a series on the first-team defense and lined up at right defensive end.

Later, Andre Carter was lined up at right defensive end with the first-team defense.

What does this mean?

Defensive coordinator Greg Blache may use Taylor and Carter at different spots on the line, depending on the offensive formation and the situation.

That's what Taylor offers: the versatility to create mismatches.

Not only are you underestimating what Gregg Williams meant to your team... but you are also overestimating your own defense.

I watched the Washington/Minn game last year and T. Jackson was just atrocious in that game. He literally couldn't hit the broad side of a barn that night. Their coach was so frustrated, I thought he might pull out what little hair he had. Jackson threw INT's from the get-go and he was afraid to let him even throw it after a while.

When a team has a QB like that... who is off as bad as he was that night... then any good defensive coordinator will line up 9 men in the box and stop ANY running back. And Gregg Williams is way better than just good. Peterson didn't have a chance in that game.

Give Minn a decent QB in that game and there's no way you guys stop Peterson.

Incredible that Gregg (second G for genius) is now hailed as a defensive mastermind on this board after 4 years of bashing here :)

GW was terrific for our D, and Blache will be just fine as well. GW's biggest issue was his utter inability to adjust (See the Pats game) mid game. If the originial game plan wasn't working, well the D was gonna get shredded.

His credibility took a major hit after the 2006 campaign where the D was atrocious

But nice that some Cowboy fans here can give a Commander coach some credit, I am actually pleasently surprised

Give the Commanders a decent safety against the Cowboys in November, and there is no way TO has 4 TD's.

Give Tony Romo stickem, and there is no way he fumbles away a FG

Give Dan Marino a decent running back in the 1980s, and there is no way he goes winless in the Superbowl

See how absurd your comment is? Tavaris Jackson was the Vikings weakness, and the Commanders D took advantage of that

I don't remember anyone ever bashing Gregg Williams. Everyone knew he was a very good coach.

I agree. He and Jim Johnson have my respect as top notch DCs, and the Giants guy is getting there quickly. IMO, the loss of Gregg Williams will be the Commanders Achilles heel in 2008.
