Wade PC - coverage

Well whats the average yard per carry in the league...I bet it lower than 6.4 yards. Teams dont like to throw as much because it inheritently more risky (sacks, int, etc.) but when a team defense isn't getting turnovers....its not really a bad thing to be throwing 50 times. It appeared to me that Dallas Defense looked worn down and if not for Newman...Washington could have easily won that game with their approach.

Historically the average yards per carry is around 4.0

Usually the threat of negative plays will keep a team from throwing 50 times per game.

they all stunk...other than Newman not one defensive guy played well in coverage yesterday...Hamlin had his share of bad plays too

What I am talking about is how bad they looked before the snaps. They were confused and lacking focus.

how do 3 people get open against 7. I will tell you why...when you are not fast, and you know you are not fast...you play with cushion and with hesitancy and without confidence. Who besides Newman is fast amongst our LBers and Secondary. Ware is fast, but we have him going forward. This team needs more speed in our LBer and secondary in the worst way

Reeves is fast... as a matter of fact he came into the league being known as more of a "track guy" than a football player.

But I understand your point.

However it's not just about speed. It's more about understanding what coverages you are in and doing what you are suppose to do.

However, who do you intend on benching/cutting in order to interject more speed?

Wakins for Roy?

Carpenter for Akin?

On nickel downs Ellis is playing on the Dline and Spencer plays OLB.

I am not one to put all the blame on Roy for secondary woes, as I think that is clearly not the case, however, we are not a great coverage team.

I could see us using two first day draft picks on secondary people, one on a CB and one on a FS.

Hamlin is a solid player, but he's not a guy who will be able to cover say Santana Moss one on one. The way the NFL is today and particularly the patriots, secondary players are vital.

We could really use a another Darren Woodson, a guy who can play safety, but who has great cover skills.

7 on 3 sounds pretty bad but when you break it down, it's usually:

3 on 1
2 on 1
2 on 1

We see people get open with 2 defenders covering them all the time. It happens against every team in the league every week, especially in zone coverages.

Instead of looking at the safety's, maybe you should look at LB's who are not getting into their zones properly... On the first Cooley TD, how is the LB's not running down the seam with him or at least dropping. You can't tell me the defense was.. give him a free run straight at Roy.. that is pretty much the hardest thing for a db to defend, because the second you turn your hips the wr is just going to go the other way.

And then on another play later in the game, Ellis drops too wide and shallow and doesn't sense the receiver crossing behind him.

It's clear to me that these guys just need more practice getting comfortable with zone coverages and picking up and letting go of recievers in those zones.

The trouble is that we're starting to run out of Football season. If they haven't gotten it by now then when?
