Calvin Watkins, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has not requested a contract extension or asked the team to pick up the option of his deal, even though he is entering the final year of a three-year contract. Phillips' agent, Gary O'Hagan, said the team has not opened any discussions.

If he goes deep into the Playoffs, he will see an extension.

I just met Wade at Ralphs in L.A, I told him that I was glad we kept him and he honestly seemed like he almost didn't want to be kept!

It was weird, nice guy though, snapped a photo, talked defense and all.

the impression I get is that Philips was looking forward to being fired. Since he wasn't, he's just content to do his time and let his contract run out. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm perceiving.

I had a feeling this thread wouldn't be to kind to Wade.

Looks like I was right.

wade still has a chance this year to ride off into the sunset, win some playoff games and hopefully win a superbowl, he just has to work hard, earn the 3 million a year he gets, and coach the best he has ever coached in his life

I think he and his agent are smart enough to realise it would be pointless to ask for this. Unless he gets this team at least an NFC Championship he has to know there is zero shot of him returning next season.

He seems like a nice guy, what did he say about defense?

He banked enough to retire comfortably with this last gig, it will be interesting to see what he does next year.

Well God, no kidding, that'd be like the idiots who drove AIG into the ground asking for huge bonuses. Wait a minute...

Why has a story been created for this?

I thought Wade was finishing out the contract and that THAT was understood.

Oh, I know!!!

The media is preparing their weekly lame duck hunting season attacks.

I think if the offense does real well, esp. without Owens, then Jerry Jones is liable to promote Jason Garrett to head coach no matter how deep Dallas goes.

If Garrett becomes a hot commodity again, I don't think Jones will let him go and will join the trend of owners turning to young head coaches.
