Wade Phillips has not requested contract extension

DT's comments above, however, certainly give a new perspective.
And Bill Parcells bolted despite getting the contract extension and the Cowboys didn't win a play-off game. Maybe Jerry has learned that giving out a contract extension in this type of scenario is absurd. You end up having to pay a guy even if he walks away.

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Jay Ratliff would never have been a starter with Parcells around, nor would we have ever known how great a nose tackle he could be. Wade was gushing about this guy way before anybody was talking about him and it seems that this gushing was the driving force for Jerry to extend Ratliff mid-way during the season. It was a move almost out of nowhere. The draft of Wade also brought in two young corners, where corners were actually a weak point in our defense wuth Jacques Reeves and an aging Henry. Canty, who couldn't bring pressure worth a dime, has been replaced by a guy who is probably better in the run. Wade has also said that Igor has untapped pass rushing skills, so even here I'm excited. Wade has brought two LBs that know his system and can teach it to players. Roy Williams, who is dear to Jerry, has been replaced by a better cover safety, which, as Wade said, allows them to be more flexible. I think Jerry is actually making moves to solidify Wade as the head coach. The problem though is Garrett didn't get picked up by the Rams as head coach.

I think for Wade to return beyond 2009 this team needs to excel and if they do then he deserves an extension if not then Dallas needs to look elsewhere. Being on the hot seat comes with the job of being HC. A couple of years back Tom Coughlin and Jeff Fisher were both on the proverbial hot seat both managed to keep their jobs

It's not an irrelevant question at all for the media to ask about this.

Parcells and Jones made a big deal 3 years ago out of giving Parcells an extension so he wouldn't appear to be a lame duck coach.

The difference now is everyone knows that Phillips in fact is a lame duck coach.

The thing is, that if the HC were Wade Phillips, Bill Parcells, or even Bill Belichick, it really doesn't matter. If the Cowboys don't atleast make the playoffs and almost surely have to atleast win 1 playoff game, everyone already knows that a new HC will be brought in next year. It doesn't matter if the HC has 1 year, or 100 years left on his contract.

Got us talking, didn't it?

I am not talking about like the way they want me talking about it.

I am not saying... "oh yeah, why isnt Jerry extending Wade?" etc....

Spot on. I wish Jerry would just let Wade coach this team. He knows what he's doing. He's been doing it since the 70's.

Why in the world would Phillips think (if he ever did) that he would deserve an extension in the first place.

:laugh2:

Cowboys | Phillips has not requested contract extension

Calvin Watkins, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has not requested a contract extension or asked the team to pick up the option of his deal, even though he is entering the final year of a three-year contract. Phillips' agent, Gary O'Hagan, said the team has not opened any discussions.

I would not be suprised if in that infamous closing the season meeting that Jerry and Wade discussed "changes", Jerry also outlined what his expectations were for 2009 and where he could stick that contract option until 2009 was over...

If he goes deep into the Playoffs, he will see an extension.

Right!

Three possible scenarios:
  1. If the Cowboys stumble out of the gate and lose their first three out of four games, WP is gone.
  2. If WP makes it to the playoffs and flames out without a win, he retires and rides off into the sunset.
  3. If WP has a winning record and makes it to the NFC Championship, Jerry extends his contract.
:)

And in all those years of coaching he has never once won a playoff game If we want him as a DC we should hire him as a DC and nothing more cause he's a crap HC

When the Raiders coach goes deep into the playoffs, he also will see an extension, but it ain't gonna happen.

The Clown Wade Phillips will go down in history as perhaps not the worst coach in Cowboys history but the one with the most talented team who couldn't do squat in the playoffs.

the clown wears another hat.

Anything shy of a Superbowl apperance and I think Wade is gone. Jerry is capable of anything, he is the type of guy who would fire him if he won the Super Bowl.

His signing as HC was a mistake.
His coming back for this season is a mistake.

We will pay.
