Wade Phillips Magic

I love Wade Phillips. Seems like a good guy and great DC. Was super happy to see him win a Super Bowl in Denver. It appears he has the LA Rams defense buzzing right along as well. He did as much in his few years in Dallas as Garrett has in his 7-ish years.

Wade's LA team has some pieces though. The front 4 is great and they also have a LB wonderkid in Alec Ogletree. Who can stay healthy 16 games.

What does it say when a great defense coach like Wade has turned around defenses each stop including the current young team in LA. But in Dallas no magic.
he had magic in dallas. wade is usually successful for the first couple of years and then his defenses fall apart. his teams fall apart. that's why he is a great rent a DC type3 coach. couple of years. quick turn around and then run him out of town....same thing for him over and over and over again. they all can't be wrong.

Wade is a DC
Marineli is a DL coach (How good? IDK, but he is not DC material)

Wade Phillips had multiple pro bowlers on his defense. What did Marinelli get? A half broken Sean Lee?
e

You mean the guys he made pro-bowlers and Fan vote out guts in because Dallas was winning again?

Jon Kitna said he targeted Bradie James when Parcells was coach. We couldn’t stop a basic screen against the Saints. Akin Ayodele was even worse than James in pass coverage.

These two guys would get destroyed even more in today’s modern game.

Ratliff wasn’t even starting and Wade made him NT. Jacques Reeves single handedky cost us the Giants playoff game from the defensive perspective. Jenkins couldn’t stay on the field.

Anthony Henry was at the tail end of his career when he came here. Newman couldn’t catch an INT. Ball was a garbage safety.

This defense outside of Ware was basically garbage.

Our Morris Claiborne pick was actually partially influenced by how bad the secondary was for years..

that is the difference between Wade and Marinelli. Wade found ways to use what he has to get the job done; Marinelli has to have exactly his guys to do anything; and even now when virtually every single defensive player has come here during his time they still cannot get it done.

Marinelli can find "rush men," but thats seems to be about all.

Everyone forget how Wade's defense would fold end of the half or end of the game? Or how the defense could not get a stop when it counted? Seems to be a common theme with all the DC's defenses in Dallas since forever. IMO it is a cultural issue that goes beyond coaching and schemes. This organization is soft.

Actually they folded because we were three and out special on offense and had to go hurry up up tempo by the second half because Jason Garretr’s Offense had no running game to control TOP, turned the ball over and flat out sucked.

Of course a defense would eventually implode against good teams.

Wade Phillips can coach defense. He is just not a head coach. He should have never been hired as a head coach here.

Dallas has had some good coordinators. Zimmer was a whipping boy here but look what he has turned into. That defense is big, physical and is really good. On offense they have lost two QB over the past two years and their stud rookie back this year and have pieced together an awful line last year to one that is pretty decent this year. Maybe Marinelli has lost his fast ball but his results speak for themselves at several stops.

The issue is what it is always been. Our front office not identifying talent and also bringing in pieces that fit these schemes. And this doesn't mean drafting a guy Marinelli wants you to draft. It is being able to consistently find the right pieces. Everyone misses, the good teams just hit on 2-3 more players a year. That is a big advantage.

They folded regardless what the offense did. Ware and Spencer would crash the line and the DBs would give up chunck plays. The DBs played off trying to prevent the big play but failed too many times to count.

Obviously the was not all Wade's fault. The DBs were not great nor ideal for the scheme he wanted to run.

Worse than the Joey Galloway trade? I don't think so.
Yep. Way worse. Galloway was a better wide receiver imo and added a deep threat. Injuries sadly screwed that trade.
Williams was a turd if a player, a turd if a man and couldn't catch a cold
I hate him more than any other player in cowboys history with him stupid hookem bs the clown footed arse

Wade had some good defenses here during his tenure. He just wasn’t cut out to be a HC. Apparently his message has a way of growing stale after a few years.

Edit: and fwiw, I would love to have Wade back here as a DC. He ain’t coming back though. Not after how everything went down. Even if it’s offered after Gingersnap is gone.
He did go back to Denver after he was fired as their HC. Anything is possible.

No doubt, the DBs sucked as well, which I mentioned. Those were guys that Wade inherited, including our awful LBs that couldn't defend the pass worth anything, including Bradie James and Akin AYodele. Jacques Reeves and Anthony Henry gave up some stupid plays at crucial times.

I’m more referring to the way he was fired. Having your successor forced down your throat, undermining you the whole time while basically being a separate entity immune to your so called powers as a head coach. The whole situation had to leave a very, very bitter taste in his mouth for the organization. I know I definitely wouldn’t want to work for an organization that treated me that way.

But trust me, I would love to be wrong about this one.
