Wade Phillips?

Aldon Smith had more sacks than Ware when he played in a 3-4 in San Francisco. Just saying, the cupboard's not totally bare. I think a stiff like Crawford might look better in the defense he was drafted to play in. Lord knows he couldn't look worse.

Crawford two years ago might have been better in 3-4. Now he just looks done to me.

The problem is we have players for a tampa 2 defense (again literally the complete opposite for personell ) trying to run a 3-4 same problem Wade would have....Tampa 2 you need 4 agile DL's to get upfield and 3 LB's beefy enough to stop the run with Small safties who play zone and average man up corners (generally you can of course have variations).....Just about any 3-4 starts with 1 very large mammoth DT and 2 larger man eating DE's the linebackers can be mixed and matched but you need 4 of them (again I think we have 2 healthy and one doesn't seem to remember how to tackle) with safties that can play at the line. your corners are generally big and can jam the line and hold down a 10 to 15 yard zone so the pass rush can do its thing and they can hold the edges on runs. Wade would fail here not because he isn't good but because.... we dont have the players to play any type of 3-4 very affective.

4-3 and 3-4 are not very similar. A 4-3 has 2 defensive tackles and 2 defensive ends, a 3-4 has ONE defensive tackle or a nose tackle and 2 defensive ends. A 4-3 has 3 LB's and a 3-4 has 4 LB's. They are not similar.

3-4 DE's are 5 tech DT which are essentially under tackles in a Wade 3-4.

Traditional 2 gap 3-4 DE's are usually close to 300 lbs, this is not necessarily the case in Wade 3-4.

While traditional 2 gap NT are usually 320-350.

Wade has had 300 lbs NT like Jay Ratliff (sometimes played under 300 lbs) to monsters like Jamal Williams. It all depends on what kind of players he has to work with.

A traditional 3-4 also has monster ILB to shut down the run. Wade prefers fast ILB, like you would find in a 4-3.

Just like a 4-3, Wade will rush 4 guys primarily. Except in Wade's 3-4, opposing teams do not know who that 4th (or even 5th) rusher will be.

If totally healthy you can see how the off season moves they were trying to get some of what you need, I think Tank could actually play DE in a 3-4 pretty good, I now know Poe nore any of our DT's couldve played the DT very well and once the LB injuries started flowing they were screwed. the safties are trash in either system. Diggs could probably be a pretty good jam corner

Please read the articles I linked above.

You really are getting hung up on fronts.

I played 5-2 in HS and college, that front could easily become a 4-3 or a 3-4 (traditional 2 gap 3-4 or Wade 1 gap 3-4).

You are confusing a traditional 3-4 (like Parcells ran) with a Wade 3-4.

Now the rest of the story. Phillips lasted 2 seasons and was let go. Now under Brandon Staley they run a base 2 gap 4-3 defense. Again you can fool yourself if you want but players that play the 3-4 defense are a different size and line up differently than players that are in a 4-3 defense. OH BTW that article is from 2017 before Phillips was let go.

What does date of article have to do with your misunderstanding of 4-3 Under compared Wade 3-4?

Are you being purposefully obtuse now?

I'm tired of this so don't bother to reply I'll just ignore you.

I have one last thing before I ignore you. If Phillips defenses are always so good why is it that he only lasts 2 or 3 years before teams move on and get different DC's? He's gone from DC on one team to another and then to another. There are DC that build good defenses that teams keep around until some team offers a head coaching job. Now that's it. You will be ignored now.

LOL

Wade as DC took Rams to SB. He did same as DC for Broncos.

If you are going to base your DC choice on tenure them you are going to have your mind BLOWN when you realize that Nolan has not been a DC since 2014.

That is SIX years he was punished for being a scrub DC.

In those same 6 years, Wade was running elite defenses for Rams and Broncos.

Look at the replies. Cowboys fans are begging Wade Phillips to come back to Dallas. Can you believe it lol?

What would be really funny if they could do fake jerry calling fake wade to come help with the defense. You could take that a mile.

Not surprising at all.

Wade standing back and standing by.

Wade still roots for his former teams.

Pure class.

No matter what scheme you run, you have to have the players. Dallas is lacking talent on the DL and at LB. Considering that’s three quarters of your defense you’re gonna be a bad unit. Belichek wouldn’t do that much better with this unit, imo.
