Wade said they didn't prepare for the Skins passing

If you look at the way the Boys prepared for the Eagles game, their pass defense was clearly better because they prepared for it. They keyed on Westbrook's underneath patterns and played with a dime for the most part and it worked to perfection on confusing Mcflabb.

Wade Phillips said yesterday that they focused on stopping the Skins running game too much and they were unprepared for the passing scheme Gibbs implemented. By the way, too much Roy Williams bashing in this forum. I thought he played well (nice drive ending tackle on Cooley in the third Q). All this whining and crying over the Boys defense is silly. Phillips admitted they weren't prepared on defense. Implementing a soft zone coverage in the second quarter was a sign of confusion (Help, we don't know who will cover who, so play soft zone so we don't get beat deep!). Take it or leave it guys, coaches in this league do miss the mark at times, and yesterday the Boys missed it.

That definately makes sense. Looked like we wanted to stop the run and the deep pass at all costs, and never adjusted to take away the intermediate medium-range stuff or the short outside stuff.

I am "glad" Wade was honest enough to admit it.

As most on this forum agree, we were wondering what was going on with the pass defense.

But kudos to Gibbs and Saunders for executing the unexpected gameplan. It almost worked.

You don't have the credibility to judge anyone's credibility.

the thought of not preparing for the game completely really worries me...we could have lost this game because Wade apparently did not do his best job in preparing the team...there is no excuse for this.

Roy Williams doesn't suck.

Roy Williams is just not a great coverage guy.

This from the guy that thinks our defense was the reason we almost lost the Bills game.

This post is just ********.

You want people to stop talking about Roy, so you bash him and then tell everyone to stop talking about him?

Brilliant.

I agree with that and I also think there is no harm taking him out on 3rd and long.

But....but.....they took advantage of their TE and killed us in the passing game with the TE!

.....ohhhhh kay.....

I guess nobody on this team is allowed one mistake. The Commanders have a great running attack that has been gashing opponants with a passing attack that has a lot of weapons who are hurt, tell me, which one would you think they'd utilize more?

There's no game plan that says "We're going to stop the run, short pass, intermediate pass, long ball, and pressure the QB all with this defensive package" You find what the team does best and try to take it away, then do your best to handle everything else. You say "we'll take away their long ball threat and force them to throw underneath, or we'll take away their running game and make them beat us with the pass"

It's not simple as saying "ok team this week we are going to work on stopping the pass and the run" in an ideal situation that is what we all want to happen but in reality it isn't going to happen at all times.

Who cares about Roy...we know he stinks, but he is the starter and it doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.
I still don't understand Wade's philosophy of stopping the run. In my opinion, no team who runs better than they pass in this league can compete....at least not in this era. It should be his priority to stop the pass first every week.

You makes some good points. It is extremely difficult to stop everything. My problem is that we didn't seem to make adjustments early enough. The soft-zone we played in the 2nd quarter was a sign that we weren't prepared. It was almost an exact blue-print of what the Pat's did to us, using the short pass to roll up first down after first down. Giving up 28 first downs to the Skin's offense is not a positive. I have two criticism's of this defense:

1. We sometimes focus a bit too much on stopping the run
2. We play a great deal of soft zone
