Wade said they didn't prepare for the Skins passing

I was waiting for some of the zone blitzes they ran against Phili. With most of the plays they were running being 3 step drops there was no way they were going to get to the QB.

I'm saying the running game is still a big part of the NFL and Taylor getting 160 and beating you is no different that Brady throwing for 373 and beating you in the end you lost.

Except had the Vikings been playing the Pats instead of the Raiders they would have been scorched as the Boys did even though they out-ran the Pats by thirty plus yards.
I do understand your point, and yes rushing the football is still neccessary, but teams that can pass the ball while games are still in the balance are now winning way more often than not.

But it's been that way for a long, long time. Teams that can or could pass the ball, put up the points:

The Vikings of the mid 70's
The Chargers, Cowboys and 49ers of the early 80's
The Marino Dolphins
The Niners of the early 90's
The Bronco's, Rams and Packers of the late 90's

The running game controls the clock but it's the passing game that puts up the points.

Wade Phillips said yesterday that they focused on stopping the Skins running game too much and they were unprepared for the passing scheme Gibbs implemented.

This is probably exactly why Wade Phillips has never won a playoff game. :banghead:

How bout we prepare to stop all phases of every team Wade? He also said he wanted to stop the run first vs. N.E. who has not been a running team all year.

NICE stats.

I didn't even realize this.

Too bad those attacking the SECONDARY will see right through this post.

ROFL. FACTS have never detered the Roy/secondary bashers on this site. They still managed to ignore reality and live in their own little world.

That short-passing game defense is really a problem.

and it's probably going to remain a problem, esp. when the pass-rush has another game like yesterday's, when you try to take something away, such in our case, the deep pass, you open up something else, the short-passing game

all we can do is hope that the players respond differently in the secondary, and that the pass-rush gets there a step or 2 more quickly

The problem is that we were playing soft zone coverage ("keep everything underneath, don't get beat deep") and not getting enough pressure on the quarterback. When you play zone coverage, there will ALWAYS be open receivers at some point. And if the quarterback has time to find them, he'll probably complete the pass if he makes a good throw and the receiver doesn't drop it. You need to pressure the quarterback to create poor throws or keep him from seeing all of the zone defenders.

Out of Campbell's 33 completions, 22 of them were thrown 7 yards or less, mostly underneath zone coverage. Five more were thrown 9-14 yards, or about the depth of the first zone. Only six of them were actually thrown past the first level of zone coverage.

And the Commanders bread-an-butter is the short passes. And Clinton Portis makes a living catching the ball out of the backfield. So does Betts.

And if any QB has time to throw, he is probably going to complete the pass.

We have been playing soft zone coverage a whole lot this year, and yesterday, we sucked bones.

This is what frustrates me about him. It's not always about stopping the run...if a team is killing you with the pass you NEED to make adjustments...I don't care what they are, just make them.

Every thread is in here turns into a Bash Roy thread or Cover for Roys *** thread...

Yes Roy Williams sucks(and stop trying to defend him)

but stop talking about him
It doesnt matter anyway, because Roy could have a lights out game, big hits, forced fumbles, sacks, ints, and blow one assignment and people will come out the woodwork to say he sucks

Thats were you lose any credibility.

Credibility on an anonymous board has absolutely zero value except to make someone feel better about themselves. Of course, if you know your right and someone questions your credibility, it would only hurt someone with weak self-esteem.

Me? I'm an egotistical jerk who thinks the world of himself. I'm the most credible ******* on the planet.

Im with you on this...If you stop the run what do you think comes next???? Im so sick of this soft coverage, I can understand it on Moss, but they did it on McCardell too..

The Eagles gameplan was not designed to stop the run primarily. However, the mindset was not to let them run all over the place either. You can't have 8 in the box and play dime coverage and expect to make stops on every play.

We forget that even thoughwe gave Campbell his best game as a pro, the Commanders STILL LOST.

We have a good team this year. Soak it up while you can...

Lets not forget they were talking about Moss perhpas not playing and quite frankly hes a very good receiver. they can run the ball and when you combine that with two very competent receivers in Moss and Cooley and it will create issues.

throw in the fact that samuels did a pretty good job manned up against ware without help and campbell was getting a good amount of time.
