Wade v Tomlin

looks like Tomlin would have been the better choice here in Dallas minus skin tone for a few of you... the Cowboys problem is not talent, the problem is the Cowboys come out flat and have a general lack of interest thanks to their head coach.

Wade was a nice contrast to Parcells but Tomlin would have been as well along with almost any other coach. Now, that we know Wade is not the answer and Jerry cant afford to change coaches like undergarments we are left with the hope that Wade will change... which begs the question how does someone who has been doing something 1 way for as long as Wade change? a nice dream!

Granted when Tomlin was hired by the Steelers I was like "who? they hired him because of the rule" now as the Steelers win the Super Bowl with an Oline that reminds me of the Cowboys 02 line... leaves us with this.

...the fact that Jerry had everyone in Valley Ranch after Parcells, but didnt interview Tomlin shows how much Jerry fishing with a frying pan!
Totally uncool-->Bold

Parcells was an excellent coaching hire. More wins would've been very welcome, but he did help lay a solid foundation for the franchise to build upon.

He's also a Superbowl winning coach! We are still looking for A playoff win!!!

Mike Tomlin is the best young head coach in the NFL, anyone says different is a complete idiot.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if that one statement was the sole reason for making this thread.

I'm kinda wondering what Tomlin does besides chest bump players. He doesn't draft players or sign free agents -- i.e., doesn't have GM-type duties. The defense certainly isn't his defense. And he's not an offensive guy.

He's basically just a figurehead.

You're not serious are you?

Wade Phillips is the ultimate figurehead. I like Pittsburgh's figurehead better.

He is known for being a defense guy. Dick Labeau is in charge of the defense, however. What are the odds Tomlin's running the offense? Zilch.

In Dallas.....

OK... so Garrett runs the offense. WHo's the DC? Literally. Who is it? He wouldn't be a figure head here. He'd have to control the defense.

If that's the case, Jimmy Johnson was a figurehead too. Wannstedt ran the defense, Norv Turner the offense. Jimmy just set the tone, and let those guys do what they did.

If you have a good staff, you can concentrate on coaching. That's not being a figurehead, that's being smart, trusting the people under you and being able to delegate.

I don't think you know what figurehead means.

I guess like Jerry Jones said, 1000 people could coach that team, we see how that ended up. The guy's a great leader and coach, and if it meant he could come here and be a figurehead and that would bring us a SB, I'd be on board with it.

Totally agree and I have Steeler fan coworkers that say the same thing...Lebeau and asst. HC Mitchell run the show apparently. Tomlin is the "rah rah" guy.

Hey mister, Tomlin came out of nowhere. No one expected him to have a team this good. Now he has a Super Bowl ring, unlike Wade.

Beyond that, if you saw early greatness in Tomlin, good on you.
Just don't do the superior thing with the aid of hindsight.
:)

Just because a coach does well in one situation doesn't mean that he'll do well in another.

With the fingers of the Owner/GM constantly meddling in the pie, Head Coach is a tougher job in Dallas.

There's no guarantee that Tomlin would have won in Dallas. And Wade just might have won a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh.

I'd miss Jerry some because I like him, but if we are concerned about winning -- I'd trade Owners/GM with Pittsburgh before I'd trade head coaches.

The problem is Wade Phillips hasn't had any meaningful success under any situation.

Honestly, I am not even sure why people even wonder who is a best football coach.

If Wade Phillips is the Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, they do not win the NFL Championship.

I see what you did there. :) (& I agree)

He also demands dirty play from his players. Of course I'm betting he words it a bit different than "play dirty!". The Steelers were always a physical team, but they are a lot more physical now and they lead with their helmet a lot now. My question is, why wasn't anything said about the two helmet to helmet hits in the AFC championship game? When the Jets hit Boldin helmet to helmet, suspensions can quickly. When the Steelers did it twice in the AFC championship game, not even a whisper out of the league.

Tomlin is a win at all cost type of coach. (think Jimmy Johnson)

Tomlin isn't a figurehead. He is more of a dictator. He demands everything you have. Personally, I prefer a dictator coach rather than a Sunday Brunch coach we have in Wade.
