Everyone wanted a star LB, a very good DT, a starting RB, maybe a lower end C for a fall back plan. It really wasn’t that much to ask.

But it was never going to happen. It’s silly and unfair that fans are blaming Dak…lol. Dak’s salary has never been a burden on the salary cap at any point in his career. It was Jerry who decided to mess around and use the franchise. It was Jerry who allowed this thing to run its full course again.

At any point, Jerry could have restructured Dak’s salary to free up money for free agency, and he did not need Dak’s permission to restructure. At any point, Jerry could have given Dak a new contract to lower his cap hit the next couple of years drastically, but he didn’t want to because he never had any thought of spending that money in free agency. Fans wanted action; fans wanted that contract restructured or extended before March 13, but that was never Jerry’s plan. It has been reported again and again that the Jones boys hadn’t even talked to Dak or his agent. Jerry was dragging his feet for a reason.

All in for me would have been a new contract, fixing the run game and run defense, and going for it in 2024. Not what the Jones boys had in mind.

Jerry’s goal is to resign Lamb, a guy who has already said he wants to be the top paid WR or very close to it.
Jerry’s goal is to resign Parsons, a guy who is fantastic, but so full of himself that we can all see Jerry will have his hands full with that contract.

Jerry is in no hurry to free up cap space because he doesn’t need it because he doesn’t plan to spend more in free agency than part of what he freed up with Martin’s restructure. Jerry will take all the savings from lowering Dak’s cap hits to sign Lamb and Parsons….period. His plans for those two youngsters has much more to do with continuing his hands off approach to free agency than Dak does.

It doesn’t help the run game, nor does it help the run defense, but keeping Lamb and Parsons and filling in around them with budget friendly free agents, 1 year contracts, and the draft has clearly been the plan all along.

We are not the ONLY team with All Pros. So if you cannot figure out how to field a team capable of competing for Super Bowls with a QB making a lot of money and a WR/DE making a lot of money. Then that is on the front office. If you have to sacrifice 1 of the 3 to fix the running game and the run stopping defense....then DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But if the only thing you are going to do different next year is pay these 3 more money...then the results will be the same. So if that was the PLAN all along...then that signifies they are satisfied with the results from last year.

I would rather either get worse from trying something different or better from trying something different....but why on earth would you run it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Jerry is playing a game of chicken with Dak. You win me a Super Bowl or you are gone after the season. Dak’s contract has nothing to do with CeeDee or Parsons. You sign CeeDee long term you get cap space. You sign Parsons next season you get cap space. Some seem to not understand that the Joneses have paid Dak his money. They owe around 90 million on the cap. If they eat the hit this season they will owe 30 million next season. With the cap jump that is small potatoes. The Joneses are all in to get their house in order. They have played us perfectly. Next season every game will mean something because Dak and MM butts will be on the line. So everyone will be watching. Just like the Joneses like it. Dak really does not have the leverage the media wants us to believe. Leaving Dallas will hurt.

I've been saying the exact same thing (in less words lol) over and over in threads this week.

So if they let Dak play out his contract and he walks after next season will we still have dead money from Dak’s contract?

Yes because he restructured twice but if he keeps the contract the same it will only be the next two seasons. I believe approximately 60 million this season and 30 million next season against the cap. The Cowboys only owe Dak 34 million in real money.

The Family business is thriving on the current model the last 10 years. Why in hell would anything change as far as changing how we do things here? Winning is in the eye of the beholder....ie the ones cutting the paychecks and signing them. We fans just gotta accept these facts or stop getting our hopes up.

My only question to that would be why are we the only team handicapped all of a sudden because we have two studs to sign? Plenty of teams with several superstars that still can afford to bump talent in other places on their roster, and more importantly, go further than one round in the Playoffs.

because Daddy and Junya are more focused on marketing and family vacations than assembling a really good team. Jerry and Stevie have flatly been lying all offseason about all in. Bull**** is what it is.

Agree, it’s like all other teams are playing with Monopoly money and we act like it’s the 30’s Depression era.

You get it. :hammer:
Jerry doesn’t, or he does because exciting skill players make him money more so than the middle of the OL and defense.

Are you sure about cap space? Lamb and Parsons are both still on rookie contracts. Their next contract is unlikely to create cap space. If they were franchised or already on a second contract, yes, then a new contract spreads things out, but both of those guys are likely to get more guaranteed money than they’ve actually earned so far.

How do you play a game of chicken when you don’t even meet and make an offer?

My only thing is that now is exactly when you push chips in, you have a good but not elite team. You’re close but not good enough but if you made the right moves and additions you can get there. If you’re not getting aggressive now, when will you?

They’ve kicked the can down the road in years past with much worse teams. If dak is your guy then why waste another year- go ahead and fix the holes on defense and wherever. If he fails he fails but you left no stones unturned in the process. They drafted well for so long - only now to get so close and say….nope, we gotta be prudent now.

It’s just really frustrating as a fan, being a good team but not having an organization willing to make the moves to get you to that next tier.
