I can still picture him when he almost bit his tongue off in SB VI.

He and Duane Thomas made up a great 1-2 punch in the backfield.
Yes...and don't forget Calvin Hill.

RIP to a Cowboys legend.

From Wikipedia:

"His style of play and perceived ability to play hurt brought him recognition in Cowboys lore, which included playing the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers with a cracked collarbone and a serious ankle injury, but still managing to record 17 carries for 71 yards, 3 receptions for 51 yards and one touchdown. It was reported in the media, that the trainers needed 36 yards of tape to get him ready to play in Super Bowl V."

another one of his classic quotes:

With all the stories about Landry's stoic personality, one time a reporter asked him if he (Garrison) had ever seen Landry smile.
Garrison replied "No, but I've only been here 9 years"

That's funny, I don't care who you are.
RIP Walt Garrison. A Cowboy legend and for good reason
He really is a Cowboy legend, no question. And the dry sense of humor, priceless.
He once told an audience, "I've got two ex-wives and one on the way." RIP Walt.

RIP, Walter.

One of my memories of him was after a playoff game against the Vikings in the early 70s. The Cowboys lost and Walt had fumbled inside the Vikings 5 yard line. A local reporter why he fumbled and, in frustration said he just felt like throwing the damn thang down.

His book, Once A Cowboy, is probably the best Dallas Cowboy book that I have ever read. His humor was legendary, his toughness unquestioned, and his play was greatly underrated. He was a Cowboy in college (Oklahoma State), a Cowboy in pro football and a Cowboy in real life. Great story about his signing bonus when he signed with Dallas in 1966 - he asked for a horse trailer, and got it. Played with a broken collarbone in the 1970 playoffs, and as a fullback, showed a ton of grit despite not being particularly big (5'10", 210 pounds). RIP to a great character and football player.

It was more like a 1-2-3 combination; Calvin Hill started the 1971 season, then was injured in game 4, and missed the next 5, but the Garrison-Thomas duo kept it going. Hill returned for the remaining regular season and the playoffs.

One of the toughest to ever put on the pads for us. RIP, ride that rodeo horse across the goal line.
