Dang. He was one the the good guys. And a tough guy.

Always remember his quote ... something like....
...If you need 3 yards I will get you 3 yards, if you need 5 yards, I will get you 3 yards.....
I’m not sure if he said that or Meredith originally did. But true .

So sad to hear of Walt Garrison passing away.He will forever be remembered for the Toughness,Courage and Versatility he gave to his Cowboys Teams throughout his career.Run,Catch,Block, just a solid player who gave his heart to every game.
How unforgettable a performance he gave in the 1970 Playoff Run to Super Bowl 5 playing with a broken collarbone and chipped ankle bone and gutting it out with his clutch play.

The unique sense of humor and personality endeared him to his teammates and Cowboys Fans and made him a truly one of a kind character.

RIP, "Puddin",No doubt Coach Landry will be there to finally great You with a smile.
Well said and a nice tribute to Walt. I was an elementary school kid when Walt was playing and I had his football card, along w every other Cowboys cards I could get or trade for. Walt set the mold for the hard working hustle style player and Bill Bates comes to mind when I think of Walt. That era Cowboys team is comprised of so many of my childhood hero’s. RIP WG.

One of the great personalities in Cowboys lore! My dad took me to see him at the Dan's Boots and Saddles store in Albuquerque in the early 1970s. I was about 7yrs old, walked up to him and handed him my autograph book, he signed it and gave it back to me, he said a couple of nice things like adults do to youngsters and asked how I was doing, I walked off never saying a word, lol. Too nervous I guess.

RIP Great dude.

Strongly recommend his autobiography for young fans if you want to see how the old school Cowboys rolled with Dandy Don, Bob Lilly, Landry, etc...

I met him in Tulsa when he was promoting a local business. Had a good lookin gal in each arm and snuff in his cheek. He even made fun of the wad of beechnut in my mouth.

To 12yo me, he was larger than life and just as country as dirt. A tough cowboy who could really dog steers.

another one of his classic quotes:

With all the stories about Landry's stoic personality, one time a reporter asked him if he (Garrison) had ever seen Landry smile.
Garrison replied "No, but I've only been here 9 years"

That's funny, I don't care who you are.
RIP Walt Garrison. A Cowboy legend and for good reason
