Walt Garrison passes away at age 79

Was one tough hombre! I enjoyed watching him in his hey day. I also watched a you tube video of him making chicken fried steak and gravy and remember making it as well. He was a real life Cowboy and was a heck of a dude. Rip seems to be used a lot these days as the greats are all checking out on us. Condolences to his family.

Life is bigger that this game, but I will say this, this current team owes it to guys like him that came before, to be better in practice and on the field. Much should be expected when your are a Dallas Cowboy. Walt knew this and led his life like that. He played like it mattered., Standards should ALWAYS be higher here in Dallas. We are the Cowboys. That guy won at life as well. He just got it.

RIP Walt Garrison a childhood hero of mine growing up in Big D. A legendary Dallas Cowboy! Heck I always had a can of Skoal in my back pocket ready for a pinch between the cheek and gums.

Wow.

I remember that the Cowboys first Super Bowl championship was the result of two offensive events. The first was when Roger became the starter. The other was Walt Garrision, Duane Thomas, and Calvin Hill all healthy at the same time.

Walt Garrison rode bulls as a part time job in the summer when he was with the Dallas Cowboys. I don't know that anything else needs to be said about toughness.

R.I.P........Walt Garrison

Damn. I hate hearing things like this about my childhood heros.
:(

Goodbye to a real Cowboy and real Dallas Cowboy. You need a Fullback and play the FULLBACK!!!!! as Walt would have said "all ya have to do is count".
He was the ultimate cowboy. He was born in Texas with a heavy Texas drawl. He wore cowboy hats and boots. He did the rodeo circuit during the offseason wrestling steers. He took Tom Landry to a rodeo to show him what he was doing during the offseason. Landry thought it was pretty dangerous. Walt told him he needed the extra money and was hoping Landry could convince Tex Schramm to pay more money.

That's Walt.
