That's a very valid point, one that I'm sure is in the back of Romo's mind. Green Bay's good this year. If they go far, Favre may be tempted to retire at the end of the year, and if that happens, there will be, like you say, a qb vacancy in Green Bay.

The problem with this scenario is that you are assuming Romo will hit the open market and we get outbid for him. What you are forgetting about is the "exclusive rights franchise tag", he cannot even speak with another team without it being tampering.

The Colts used this on Manning when they were getting his new deal done.

Everybody calm down, Romo is going nowhere.

Jerry has been very clear is saying it's not a matter of whether Romo will be the guy of the future, he's going to get his money. I just hope Romo's agent isn't asking for Peyton manning money or anything like that, but Romo definitely deserves Bulger money.

It also doesn't matter that Mosley is "friends" with Romo, you think Romo decided Mosley was the guy to let it all out to about how frustrated he is and how contract negotiations are going?

Jerry just caved on Ellis because he is so giddy with success right now.

Romo is going nowhere.

I have been critical on Jerry the GM on plenty of occasions, but Jerry the owner is a smashing success at signing the players he wants.

Romo will get signed but I sensed this private frustration from Romo with the media reports that came out last week. Mosley just confirmed it.

Put yourself in Romo's shoes. Ever since you came in you've breathed new life in the organization, yet it all could be taken away in one play. You would want a long term deal now, just for the protection of your future and your family.

Remember Parcells telling Romo to Google the name Greg Cook? Go do it and you will see he was the AFL's leading passer as a rookie for the Bengals and by most accounts he, no doubt, would have been an all-time great, if not for one play when his shoulder hit the ground. Couple of years later he was out of football.

Romo wants the big money and he wants it now. Come on Jerry, give him the big money with a nice fat escalator for something like a SB victory. if Romo ever wins a SB he will deserve Peyton type money.

Maybe we're waiting to see how he plays in the NE game. If we can beat NE and Romo shines, you can bet that contract will come in those following weeks.

This whole deal about "is he the one?" Forget it ... that ship has long since sailed. Do you think we're just going to scrap Romo and start all over again if he has a bad November or playoff game? Please. Scrap him and go to what, exactly? Some retread bridge QB like Vinny? Think Jerry is willing to give some rookie Top 10 draft pick QB 25-30 million in guaranteed money and give him three to four years to prove he beats the 1 in 5 odds that he's not David Carr, Byron Lefty or Joey Harington? He's "the one" in that he's going to be the Cowboys QB for at least the next 3-4 years, no matter what. Romo is our horse, for better or for worse. The question is do you want to pay him .75 cents on the dollar today, or 1.25 on the dollar tomorrow. Will he be the next Aikman? That is yet to be seen, and it will probably take e 5-8 years before that will be determined. It might be 20-30 years before we find "the next Aikman". Ask the Jets how long it's taken them to find the next Namath. Or the Chargers to find the next Fouts. Or the Bears the next Sid Luckman (50 years). So you're just going to put the franchise completely on hold for two decades until you find him?

If I were Romo and Jerry slaps the franchise tag on me in 2008, I just play along and be the good guy for a season. Then after the season I go to Jerry and say "You want to play hardball? How's this for hardball ....you know that $35 million guaranteed I was asking for? Scratch that. Let's make it $55 million. Or maybe $65. I'm going to hold out, and you can just give me a call when you're ready to meet it. That pretty new stadium you're so eager to break in? It will be a shame when it gets overshadowed by a quarterback holdout by your most fan beloved player of the last decade. When you're ready to give me my money, give me a call. I'll be sipping beers out on a beach in Maui and living off that 12.6 million you gave me last year. Enjoy the fan and media evolt when you're breaking in the new stadium with the equivalent of Chad Hutchinson or Anthony Wright."

Jerry is no fool. If he would have signed him to a long term deal during the summer for alot less money then he would get now and Romo turns out to be the real deal, now you have a franchise QB that is unhappy with his contract.

He holds off until he is comfortable giving Romo franchise QB money, now Romo is happy, Jerry is out more money, which doesn't bother him, and now everyone is happy.

During this whole time, you have a QB that is highly motivated to succeed so he can get the big contract, and the Cowboys under the direction of a motivated Romo go on to win the SB.

If anyone thought negotiations would be easy, then they were fooling themselves.

I lay responsibility (which may later be blame) at the feet of Jerry Jones. He should have extended the kid with a Marc Bulger style contract during the pre-season. Now the price has gone up, and rightfully so.

The onus is on Jerry to get it done. I have to believe, like Hos, that it will get done. Only once has Jerry ever made a mistake like this, with Emmitt during the 1993 season, and he corrected it. He did the same with Ellis last week. I have to believe it will get done.

Still, I'm scared senseless, both about Romo and Garrett.

Jerry's no fool and that means Jerry is also a businessman and in this case the franchise tag is his leverage if Romo asks for the moon. Don't forget, Jerry wasn't willing to pay Emmitt Smith top dollar for a very long time, so he can be stubborn.

Also the stadium was mentioned by IR. Good point about Jerry needing his marquee player. But by the same token he is personally shelling out a huge amount of $$ for that place, so in the back of his mind, he probably isn't in the mood to be giving $$ away right now on player contracts.

Usually Jerry looks so happy in his booth when the Cowboys are doing well, but the few times I've seen him in the booth he seems to have been reserved. Anyone else noticed that about him?
