I'm not concerned Jerry will get a deal hammered out with Romo. Jerry knows better than anyone how hard it is to get a quality QB in this league.

What Jerry want the most right now is SB ring and he knows Romo is his ticket to getting that ring. He'll pay, which he has said many times and I believe him. Also, I believe Romo wants to be a Cowboys for a long time, hell, who wouldn't?

They will get the deal done, Jerry will have a franchise QB and Romo will be a very rich, happy young man.

Matt just called in to GAC and said that he heard just as recently as last night that Romo and his reps are very far apart from Jerry and Co. on his contract, and the gap may even be widening.

He also said that he feels like if something doesn't get done by the bye week, it won't get done this year.

Plus, he said he believes that if Tony is franchised, he's not going to sign a long-term contract here.

So connecting the dots... He says we better get something done in the next three weeks if we want Romo here for very long... Or at least a happy Romo.

Just reporting what was said. (And Matt is pretty good friends with Tony.)

What else are Cowboy fans going to discuss? We certainly can't complain about how poor our team is playing or how much we desperately need a QB to replace the loss of Aikman.

Cowboy fans, myself included, are all in a twitter over the possibility, however remote, that somehow something screws up the Romo signing mess, and we lose the QB we've been looking for and the player we all love watching. Don't really believe it & can understand if Jerry even wants to wait til close to end of season just to see a whole year of Romo before shelling out the kind of money he will have to pay.

Guess I just wish Jerry puts in item in his note pad to reassure Cowboy fans often that Romo will be signed.

Norm Hitzges was saying on OTL that the Boys have a deadline of November 5 to get the deal done and put some of his bonus number to this season's cap. That's one week after our bye. I expect it to be done during the bye week... possibly announced that Sunday.

That's what I'd like to see. During the bye week, just before Philly.

Not unnecessarily, Peyton has years of doing it, he proved himself to be one of the best that ever played even BEFORE he won a Superbowl. All the Superbowl did was absolutely guarantee, without a doubt, that he'll be a half of famer.

I don't think he's all that frustrated. You're talking about a guy that was great and then hurt himself, so he couldn't play well anymore. Why on earth would that guy deserve money? There's nothing wrong with working for your money, even in professional sports.

It's not time to panic, yet, but I was in the camp to sign Romo in the offseason. There was no reason not to do it and you probably could have done it $8-10 mil per year with about 20 guaranteed. Well the price has gone up and will continue to go up, if Romo resembles the Romo we're seeing now.

I agree with Inman. Get the deal done. Use up some of this year's cap space. Give him $27 guaranteed with 10-12 per year (maybe more), but get it done. Jones doesn't have great leverage. The only thing he's got is the franchise tag. And once you franchise him you have no leverage. You pulled your last lever and Romo calls the shots.

If we slap the exclusive tag on him, it is close to 30M for two years.

If we just slap normal franchise tag on him, Bears/Ravens/or Packers would gladly give us two lower No.1s for Romo's service.

So he was getting 20m easy. The question is if he can get 30+ like Peyton or 26m like Bulger.

I guess the only news is that Romo wants this done and is going to be angry if it isn't.

I know everyone likes to say that being franchised is no big deal, that the player is still getting a ton of money. But the players never seem to see it that way. Just look at all the examples of it... Samuel being the latest.

Maybe Jerry thinks Tony is such a great guy, he doesn't care if he's franchised. But maybe he'd be wrong about that, like he was about Ellis.

I think it will get done, too, and probably soon. But I think Terry Bradshaw had a pretty good analogy on Sunday. He said Jerry was like the guy who's been divorced two or three times, and then when he finally meets "the one", he can't quite trust himself to pull the trigger on a long-term relationship. Even though he was kind of being funny, that's probably not too far off the mark.

Now we are reaching. Analogies about Jerry and divorces. Lord, just let Monday get here so the Cowboys can play.

But I will say that stupid things happen sometimes when pride and money are involved. I would feel better if something got done pretty quick.

TO is no longer a story worth telling, except that he's become the player we all hoped he would be. Bad news sells. This is the only potential bad news outside of injuries the Cowboys have, so the fifth estate is on it like sharks on blood. Everybody wants to be first to either predict the outcome or break the next hot item.

More people should either watch TV with the sound off or with the sound up and out of view of the tube. The content for the most part is far too obvious.
