Panthers | Johnson mulling whether to return next season
Tue, 16 Jan 2007 08:11:05 -0800
Scott Fowler, of the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/129">Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers WR Keyshawn Johnson is undecided on whether he will return to play in 2007. Earlier this year, Johnson had stated he'd only play for Carolina if offensive coordinator Dan Henning was retained. Henning was fired earlier this week. "I don't know, man," Johnson said. "There's so much bull that goes along with the NFL. This is one of the toughest calls I've ever had to make. I could play until I'm 40. But I've always felt like that in the offseason, if I start to feel like maybe it isn't for me, then maybe it's time to say, `Never mind.' " Johnson added that he will not participate in learning a new offensive system in Charlotte. "I'm a California guy. My kids (ages 11 and 8, they live with Johnson's ex-wife) are here. You ask me to come in there in March -- nope. You're taking valuable time away from me and my kids," Johnson said.

I though Keyshawn did a better job for us than Owens, all things considered (blocking, clutch catches, ect.)

"And now, in a new city, with a new team, it feels like I'm just getting started"

...or not so much.

I would welcome him back and some, he can be a veteran leader on the team that doesn't think twice about speaking his mind and is easily tempered by bill. I am all for a Key to dallas reunion. Can you imagine that three receiver set, or even a four with crayton and witten still at TE. I just made a mess. this is likely bills last year key can go with him when he is done anyways. I LOVE ME SOME KEYSHAWN!

If we didn't have Crayton on the team, I'd love Keyshawn as a 3rd WR.

we seemed to have a ran a no RB set a bit this last season, crayton can play on third downs just like always. We could run with no RB and just a TE or no TE and a RB man oh man the possibilities.

No! Not that I dislike Key, but this is a position we need to work in the younger players. Probably be wise to go that way in the draft if an oppotunity comes our way.

In that case I'd rather see a first day pick fill that role, and step up to a starter the following year.

We are pretty darn deadly as it is at WR.
Terrell Owens
Terry Glenn
Patrick Crayton
Miles Austin
Sam Hurd
Add Keyshawn to that list, and it only makes us deadlier. I'm sure BSPN would write up some story of a feud between T.O and Key.

Slow, hes a liability. Has no playmaking ability outside of the red zone, doesn't have the speed to run anybody, and excells at routes that require QBs to make dangerous throws (fades and outs especially). His blocking and clutch catches are a tad overrated. Considering Steve Smith saw double coverage all year he should've abused the single coverage.

I'd rather put Patrick Watkins out wide.
