We are starting to see the annual pre-season predictions from almost all the usual media reps. I’m always amused by not only the predictions but even more so by the fans who scream “disrespect” because their favorite team was predicted to crash and burn. If a writer gives a good prediction, he’s “credible”; if not he’s “an idiot”. Everyone wants their team to be respected and that’s understandable.

This summer’s predictions that I’ve read as a collective group seem to have our Cowboys as high as 12-4 and as low as 7-9. ESPN local writer Todd Archer has us at 10-6 and a WC team. Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machata has us at 9-7 and out of the playoffs. Big whoop. I believe the Cowboys have enough talent to make some noise. Do they have the coaching? We will see.

Honestly, I put ZERO credibility into any of these predictions, good or bad. The NFL is the toughest pro sports league to predict. Raise your hand if you had the Jaguars last year in the AFC Championship? This year, they are one of “sexy” picks which usually means they won’t make the playoffs.

The reason the NFL is so hard to predict year to year is because the difference between a SB winner and a non-playoff team is not that far talent wise. Unlike the NBA or MLB, the talent pool in the NFL is spread pretty evenly, and the way the salary cap is managed these days, teams have a lot of turnover from year to year. Every year in the NFL is a new adventure.

My main point is this- None of us know what teams will be in the SB this year, but as far as getting some of that “RESPECT” that all fans crave, there’s literally only one way to get it with the media: WIN in the playoffs. Get at least to a conference championship game. And guess what? That’s actually fair. You want respect? Earn it by winning some playoff games. This team hasn’t won two playoff games in a season since Barry Switzer was packing heat in his suitcase at the airport.

Here’s a few links to some pre-season predictions...if you care to imbibe. LOL!

3. CBS Sports https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...game-for-every-team-plus-super-bowl-champion/

Respect is earned by winning in January. We will get zero respect until that happens. And again, that’s fair! Let’s go Cowboys!

49 ers are getting more respect in preseason odds and they haven’t even sniffed the playoffs with this group. Were 1-10 until Jimmy G showed up winning their last 5 games.

The Texans haven’t won any playoff games and they are higher odds to win SB than we are.

There’s more reason than no recent playoff wins why we aren’t being picked by most to make the playoffs.

While there is a few teams which surprise us each year there are some core teams which we can count on to be more than pretenders. And there’s a reason because they either have a stellar defense and or a proven QB. And looks like even Jimmy G performance on a 1-10 team is looking like proven enough.

The Cap era has lowered the overall talent depth but there’s still cream at the top and until we have more of it at the critical areas and positions we’ll remain more pretenders than contenders.

I find the 49er “love” hilarious. They are basing their inner improvement essentially on the back of 4 games that Jimmy Garropolo played well. Jimmy G has way less credibility than Dak IMO.

He uplifted a 1-10 team overnight. I don’t know about you but that’s deserves instant credibility with me. And he’s much more prolific passing QB. And it was 5 games wasn’t it?

You may be right...5 games? But Jimmy G has yet to see defenses make major adjustments to what he does well. He’s good, but we haven’t seen NFL DCs hit him with all their crazy looks and adjustments. Ask Dak how different that makes things.

I think the niners were so bad, they had no place to go but up.

Or perhaps they were a better QB away?

How much better are the Cowboys and this offense if we insert a much more prolific passing QB?

Put a young QB like Jimmy G, Wentz or a Goff in our offense and we are instantly elevated.
If the new receivers work out, the Cowboys offense is better than the niners and most other NFL teams. That’s still an If though. We will see soon enough.

This Dak hatred has gotten stale already.

Didn't make the playoffs last year, Dez and Witten need to be replaced, Eagles won the Super Bowl...it's not hard to understand.

Who cares about preseason "respect" anyway? Winning in the postseason is how you earn it.

Eagles won SB with a top 5 defense and QB who played at MVP level. If we get that we will contend too.

Yeah, it seriously is. Find something else to harp on, Dak is still an unknown. And don't forget, it's the casual know-little fans who are always screaming about the QB. Move on til he proves it this season.
It’s a QB driven league. You either have one or looking for one . Or you have to build a great team and defense around a lesser one.

You have more confidence than I Based on what we’ve seen Dak is enough or our dysfunctional organization can surround him.

He was impressive, no matter if people like to give him credit or not. He was able to make things happen on the move, he never took his eyes away from downfield, and read defenses well. He has a quick release, and good touch. I think he is the real deal and will prove it. I wanted him here 3 years ago, to be the future replacement for Romo... friggin 49ers had to get him.

Teams like the Eagles , Rams and now looks like 49ers were instantly elevated with a QB.

Meanwhile we’re like Minn, Houston or Jax without a defense. Oh boy
