I finally got a job today (thank God). I'll be the warehouse manager for a company that supplies erosion control and related materials for construction sites. I'll also be managing the warehouse next door that supplies concrete brick for landscaping work. It's a small company, but I'll be getting paid pretty well for a single guy ($32,000).

I've got a Tacoma now and the transmission is going out, so I want to get rid of it ASAP before I have to sink $2,000 into it. I don't want another small truck like a Tacoma or Nissan Frontier.

What do you guys recommend I look at? And should I get something new or preowned?

I like the Ford F-150
I also think you are better off buying new if possible.

I would always go used, but I'd definitely go for an F150.

You can get some sweet deals on some trucks with low mileage if you go used.

Why do you recommend new?

He wants to see you get ripped off?

But Newused. Find a low mileage truck, 2-3 years old. Check the car fax.

I'd never buy a new car. Or lease a car. Those are two of the biggest wastes of money out there.

New cars do depreciate a ton.

I'm thinking used.

I'm a fan of Fords too. I like the way they ride.

Why do you recommend new?

If I'm going to spend the money I like new as opposed to dealing with someone else problem. Plus I like having the full warranty and feel I can get more for my money buying new.

This.

I had a Titan for a couple of years & loved it. Sucks down gas, though.
Definitely go used, but ask for a Carfax report to make sure it hasn't been seriously damaged in the past. When you buy new, you have to pay taxes on the purchase... buy used and you do not pay taxes (or dealer fees). My picks in order are: F150, Titan, Tundra, Ram1500.

I'm thinking F-150. I don't like Titans or Rams, and the recent Tundras look like big turds rolling down the street.

LOL. Then why did you ask the original question? Your remaining choices are Ford, GMC, or Chevy. Go Ford.

This... In the state our economy is in right now, I'd try like hell to keep your income to debt ratio way low. If you have any intentions of trying to get your own home anytime soon, this is a wise move. For a young person who has little overhead, now is a great time to buy a home. Prices will never be lower then they will be for the next few years.

Deals can be found. Get something that is low miles, just a few years old and can be had for a good price. You can buy an extended warranty option from an independant source that gives you the same kind of factory coverage you get with a new vehicle.

I like GMC and Chevy myself but many don't because of what has happened lately with the Federal Government. Whatever you decide to go with, I'd recommend buying used. No reason at all for a young person to drive off the lot with a car that devalues by 20% once you drive it off the lot.

Good luck and congratulations Jon.

:)

Trying to get input. Maybe someone likes Chevrolets more than Fords.

I didn't even think of F-150s until Doomsday said something, but I do like them. I was leaning towards Chevrolet or GMC.

When it comes to cars I'm a chevy guy, when it comes to trucks I think Ford builds better trucks.

Thanks man.

I'll buy something used and probably Ford or GM.

I've had two Tacomas and I don't like the lack of space or how they break in.

I had a salesman job earlier this year that didn't last. I drove around a Chevrolet Malibu and it was a POS.

Exactly the same advice I gave my own Son and God Son Jon. If you need help finding an extended Warranty option for whatever you buy, let me know and I will tell you how we went about getting it.

Never owned a Malibu so can't speak to that I have owned Camaro and Monte Carlo and my mom and dad believe it or not both drive Corvettes none of us had problems. Currently have a Monte Carlo that is 9 years old knock on wood but have had no major repairs done to it. As for Trucks been a while since I owned one but have several friends in the construction business who will swear by their Ford Truck.

My dad owns a construction supply business and started out buying Ford trucks. He had his first one from 1994 until recently.
