That's the going rate to franchise him ... about 16 million of you want to keep him
if he is a real daddy, 16M is cheap.

What I heard on one of the SIRIUS NFL shows was that the Jets were to the point of accepting even a 5 or 6 for him, given his injury risk, his contract, and his suspension risk. They also indicated that even if you were to trade for him, it would likely be on a one year deal because he wants to hit the market as a FA. Summation: sounds like he's not worth the trouble/cost/risk.
Dude had one sack last year....one. Not sure this is a guy you want to hand the franchise tag.
Thank goodness, you're not the GM. Giving up a 3rd next year is like giving away Jourdan Lewis.
Richardson would be a DT here. He is listed as a DE because they are a 3-4 team.i dont think Taco is going to be a daddy and consistently demand double teams, and most probably not in 2017.
looks like sheldon richardson, former defensive rookie of the year, is still being shopped.

sounds like they only wanted a 3rd round pick.
now that 2017 draft is over, we could offer a 2018 3rd round pick.
if he pans out, 2 years of franchise player can be exercises and it would be even cheaper than a major FA contract.
We have talent on the roster now, what we need is production. You don't know if Richardson can give you that or not. He is as big of a question mark as anyone else currently on the roster. If you can get him dirt cheap I agree with you, but a 3rd? No thanks.the guy was moved everywhere and the jets are dysfunctional.
he was a defensive rookie of the year - those guys are generally extremely talented.

Comparing Richardson to Taco is apples-to-oranges.
The primary value of draft picks in the modern NFL is their value as a cap management tool. If you use both draft picks and cap space on the same player, you're going to have cap problems.
If the Cowboys wanted to spend 8M this year and Franchise tag in 2018 and Franchise Tag + 20% in 2019, then they likely would have just tried to sign a free agent and not use the draft pick.
The other issue is that players don't like to be Franchise Tag. Richardson is a known volatile personality. Using the Tag on his not once, but twice would likely be a big problem. He would probably hold-out.

I live in NY and have seen him play plenty. He's a very good player when his head is screwed on correctly...which it hasn't been in some time. He's not the kind of guy you trade away for peanuts...unless he's a knucklehead, which he is.
Wow, such a great player. Why does the Jets wanna get rid of him? Keep those other team's trash with a shiny lipstick away from here.you are comparing an unproven rookie to a former defensive rookie of the year.
most drafts are not going to turn out like 2016.
It's both. (Though I see your point.)question is if that is the jets or him?
notice wilkerson is also a problem now.
this is the same organization that threw their QB situation into a tailspin after a good year from the starter.

Was just passing along what I heard. I don't know **** from shinola about the guy myself. It is possible that I could have misheard or misinterpreted what the were saying regarding injury. As for the suspension risk, I do know that he was previously suspended and is not likely to be nominated for Citizen Of the Year. He just doesn't seem like thy kind of player that the team is looking to sign to an extended deal, and it's not worth giving up a future pick for a one year rental on him. JMO.injury risk?
he is no gregory in terms of suspension.
well, if no one wants him, he would be even cheaper by trade deadline.

Agreed. It baffles me people complain Charlton doesn't fit the mold ... yet want Richardson lol
