Ware is most like which current player?

Freeney is more of a short and squatty body type. Freeney also has more raw speed. I think the Abraham comparison is probably best comparison as far as skill set.

Less than a week into camp and Henson is a bust, Thompson is gonna beat out Jones, and now we are comparing a rookie who has not even played a preseason game to pro bowl players.

I thought having camp finally come was gonna make things better around here?:D

I would say John Abraham or Porter. It's hard for me to compare him to Freeney. Freeney is much bigger than Ware. They both have speed but Freeney out weighs Ware by 20lbs. I dont see Freeney playing OLB in the 3-4.

I am surprised that so many of you think Freeney.

I for one think he (Freeney) is vastly overrated.

I did like however Silverbear's Jason Taylor comparison.

How does this guy do?

# 94 John Abraham
Position: DE
Height: 6-4
Weight: 256
Born: 05/06/1978
College: South Carolina
NFL Experience: 6

This is the guy that Ware most resembles IMO.

Abraham was my initial thought as well. Freeney is a lot shorter and more stocky type.

I say LT, although it is cheating since that is who Parcells (the great NFL mind) says!:laugh1:

I would say he is a faster version of Suggs.

Freeney vastly overated! Haven't been watching much football the past couple of years huh? Freeney is a one of the premier pure pass rushers in the NFL today. Hands down top five. This guy is the real deal.

I agree that Ware favors Jason Taylor and a faster Terrell Suggs.

I'll take 16 sacks any day.

he sure does look like abraham but he's probaly going to be more of a terrell suggs but better

C'mon guys. You missed the obvious comparison. Jevon Kearse as a rookie.
"The Freak" was a beast as a rookie. Now it sounds like Ware may be a better over-all athlete than Kearse. I think Kearse relies too much on speed to rush and doesn't have a full complement of moves as we have heard about Ware. That being said, I agree we should wait to see Ware actually do something in a game before we annoint him our defensive savior for the pass rush. :)

But for size and speed comparisons, I say he sounds like a young, Kearse clone.

You forgot that "we" also want to move Gurode to DT. Who comes up with these ideas?? ;)

I must apologize. I saw Freeney and thought Kearney. I shouldnt have been going to sleep that late anyway.

Why is it that people like to compare rookies to other veterans? For all we know they may be different than anything we've seen. The whole next LT comparison is wearing thin.

I just hope he plays great and people start looking for player like him.

Freeney may be a great sack man, but he gets blown off the ball 8 yards straight backwards on every single running play. He and the Colts are great examples of how lots of sacks != great defense. They tie for 3rd in the NFL in team sacks, but still give up over 20 points per game because they are among the worst run defenses in the league.

Key phrase in the statement was....."pure pass rusher".;)

There's not a team in this league that wouldn't take Dwight Freeney. It takes more than one guy to play team defense. In a lot of defenses across the league, the DE sacrifices himself so that the Lb's and safeties can come up and make the play. The Colts don't have playmakers at those positions and that's why the were weak against the run. Not to mention, below average DT's.

Would I take Freeney on my team? In a second. That doesn't mean that he's not overrated though when you look at him as a complete player. I think the entire Colts defense serves as a cautionary example of what happens when you place too much emphasis on sacks and not enough about gap control and holding up at the point of attack.

I want someone to reach double digit sacks this year... I don't care who gets them... If Cundiff can sack the QB 12 times this season, get em' in thare!!
