Was it ever official that Tyler Smith would play LT? Who protects Dak's blind side?

Last I read, he was going into a Coach’s meeting to voice his dissatisfaction with the position. To me, OT is that big elephant in the room. You can’t survive a season with a bad one. But the team really needs those high draft picks to fix the defense, and has already spent too many in recent years on the line, Now reports come out that Guyton doesn’t have the heart for football?? I see the Chiefs released Jawaan Taylor but I don’t think he’s any better than Steele who has been up and down since his injury. It makes a lot of sense with Bass and Hoffman at depth, to move Tyler outside unless there is some type of free agency solution. Far too many holes on the D, but having a hole at LT will cripple (literally) Dak.

I think he came of that meeting a LG

JMO it would be smart of him to move to LT. His AAV would be 6th for OT's so its not a money issue. But if he can make a Pro Bowl or two at LT, he could be in line for a much bigger pay day in contract #3. And I think he will like 27 when that comes around

But then again, he may be confident that can happen either

I think it's more important that he play guard and keep the center of the offensive line intact. As a guard he could help outside or inside. At least that way Dak gets to step up in the pocket, flushing him out cuts down the field, and Dak is not fast enough to capture the edge. Keep the all pro at guard.

He played some RT when Guyton was hurt but made it obvious he wasn’t pleased with the decision.

Schotty said flat out "he's a guard" but also said things could always change if it means getting the best five linemen out on the field.

As has been discussed here before, moving Smith to LT full-time opens a can of worms given that he would go from the highest paid guard in the league to an under-paid left tackle.

Rasheed Walker ranked 13th league wide FA available out of Green Bay should definitely get a phone call from the Cowboys . He’s LT send Guyton to the right side to compete for a job . If the Cowboys keep up the bargain sales FA that’s how you get stuck with Jack Sanborn

IDK .....his tone suggests he wanna stay at LG. He even reminded a writer that he will do whats bestfor the team, but he's an All-Pro LG. What's interesting, these exact issues can come up with Zack Martin, and he addressed them pretty much the same way.

Just me, but I think fans can put the idea of him permanently moving to rest...... but I agree that doesn't address the huge question mark at left. Klayton Adam sounds like he wanna give Guyton more time.

So it's OK w/ you if Smith is a holding penalty nightmare at OLT?

More like an underperforming LT.

Smart? Even though he'd be subpar? Why would it be smart?

I dont think he would be sup par. He has the skill set to be a Pro Bowl caliber LT. He has the feet and slide to mirror top rushers. He had a strong run in the three games he started. Much better than when he was a rookie.

It would be smart for him, because he could make alot more money setting the market at LT than he could at LG. If he can get a couple Pro Bowls(which I think he could), he would get a top 5 OT contract at 27 years old.

Its moot anyways, because he himself doesnt agree with me. And thats what matters really

To make any kind of intelligent comment on the question of whether Tyler Smith should be moved to LT, you’d have to be a coach who spends time with him day in and day to know whether he’s capable of of handling the position. The player, for example, needs to be completely bought in is a major factor.

Oh I know he does. Im just saying its my opinion its a smarter play for him to move to OT

This ....100%

The Tackle positions is why I am not opposed to drafting an OT with one of the first picks, especially if the really good defensive players are gone.

Tyler Guyton is the starting LT. No FA is going to be available and the draft will be at 4th round or lower, 1st round is for defense.

No, that's just it, he doesn't. He doesn't have the feet. Where did you hear that he does? He's predicted to be a holding penalty nightmare at OLT because he doesn't have the feet to mirror edge rushers.
