The point is, they only benefitted when Baltimore tried to put the game away by taking stupid shots downfield, when it was 20-6. It had more to do with Cameron thought he was Jason Garrett for a moment.

They got flat-out dominated. If you noticed, Pennington threw 4 INTs. Baltimore allowed Miami to score, trying to put the game away with big-shots downfield instead of controlling the clock. When they went back to running the ball, McGahee burst threw with that big run.

Miami sinks or swims with Pennington, who is a game-manager. This type of play-calling got exposed when they play good teams. Pennington made this team, more so than any coaching.

Last year, Miami had a revolving door at QB.

This was the same deal with Pennington when he was with the Jets. Against quality opponents, he usually struggled.

It will be a bigger mistake if, in lieu of Shanahan/Spagnuolo/Cowher we don't interview or get permission to interview Sparano.

Spagnuolo seems to be the best choice, though.

Well something was lacking this year, whether or not it was him I can't say; I think your feelings of Sparano are slightly exaggerated because you are envious of the success Miami compiled this season and attribute that to Sparano.

I think it was more than his absence that brought about this futile season.

I will say this however, why wasn't Todd Bowles promoted to defensive coordinator in 2007 after he was interviewed instead of bringing in the lesser qualified Brian Stewart?

Bowles' defense did well with that rag tag Miami group.

The O-line, which Sparano used to coach, was a mess this year. And again, most of their problems were mental, not an injury to Kosier.

Two direct areas where Sparano provided input declined significantly this season.

Should we have named him HC for that? Honestly, no. Not unless Jerry was stepping aside and giving GM responsibilities to Bill.

But anyone downgrading his contributions to this team or the job he did this year for Miami is as 'agenda driven' as those giving Jerry grief for letting him go.

Some people would be. Some not. I think he'll be a one year wonder. When they play the first place schedule next year instead of the 4th place schedule they will come back down to earth. People figured out his gimmick offense. He doesn't have another rabbit in the hat.

Frankly we don't know if it was a mistake or not. This is where the fans really don't know what the right decsion is. It looks today like we shouldn't have let him get away. However in a couple of years that may and may not prove to be true. I remember when Pennington was available and everyone said no way. But he has played very well this year.

We fans tend to look at what players and coaches have done recently. But the real question is if they are quality football people. That is something we can really never know. We just aren't close enough to the day to day to know who has what it takes and who is just lucky.

I know that, but it is still an advantage. Like I said, he had a gimmick offense that took people a while to solve. But they did. Great story. Good off season. I still think they'll come back to earth. Chad Pennington had a magical season but the chances he can pull that off again are not good.

it was a mistake but its all hindsight. to be honest almost nobody on here really knew how important Sparano was to this team's offense. if we had hired him as HC i bet the hatred for Jerry would have been through the roof and i will be honest i probably would have been one of those people because i just didnt know his exact role for this offense.
