Romo was auditioning for his next contract. That's the only reason PArcells is playing him this much.

I agree with this. Be in with us or with someone else.

The Cowboys are in as much position to trade away a promising quarterback prospect as they are a promising offensive line prospect.

None.

I agree with the statement but they aren't in a position to trade away their one true backup QB either. Not unless they have covert plans to pick up a good backup in hand. I refuse to believe they are counting on Henson.

I don't know why anyone is baffled with how BP has handled Bledsoe and Romo, thus far... if anything we should know by his past, he can do funny things with the QB position...

I don't believe so, but have been wrong on stuff like that before. I won't say it's impossible. I also won't say it's likely.

Interestingly, Parcells first got Romo in order to develop him into a player he could trade for a draft choice.

Also interestingly, last year in Seattle, Parcells told Holmgren he had another young QB he thought was special and that he would see him soon.

What do these things have in common? - nothing, I just thought they were interesting.:

If he's showcasing Romo, it ain't to NO.

Parcells said it in a press conference shortly after Romo was originally signed. In the same comference Parcells also said he wanted to develop QBs and always have one under development that he could trade for draft picks in order to get more selections on draft day if he already had a franchise QB. Developing raw talent seemed to be a hobby with him. Also at that time he said that he thought Romo had a lot of native talent that he could develop into a starting QB in the NFL. I've kept an eye on Romo ever since, trying to see what BP saw in him and I must admit, I am intrigued with the possibilities.

Parcells told the media he needs to get Romo 8 or 9 quality quarters in the preseason so he can go to Jerry with a proper evaluation. ...so they have a better idea of Romo's potential especially with him being a FA after the year and contract negotiations ongoing.

So was this a move Jerry demanded of BP or was it BP's idea?

Romo is the unquestionned backup.

Thats it.

Th reason he played so much was because it was preseason game 1 and it entertains BP to taunt the media and fans who are so easily swayed. They need to decide how much money to pay this kid and have already decided he is worth more than a 3rd rounder but have not deigned to give him playing time before now.

Henson is here as a 3rd QB. There is no compeition for any QB spot. It really should be the most boring position of camp but instead BP keeps everyone on pins and needles while he giggles aloud.

Oh, I agree. But Romo/Henson backing up Bledsoe is more comforting that Henson and whatever else we could get. I have no desire to be looking at signing flotsam like Jeff Blake any time soon.

Hey, ya never know. Kerry Collins is still out there and he's more of the "jetsam" ilk.;)

I doubt that we were showcasing Romo to build trade interest. I think Parcells actually wanted to see how Romo would hold up if he had to play a full game. He is testing Romo for his own edification not as a trade presentation to any other teams. It really makes no sense to get rid of a guy who is just coming into his own at his position.

We have some here (ABQ) who will never be comfortable unless we have some washed up old vet as our backup. I do not want that and have never believed that an old vet backup was better than a talented young backup. Anytime you have to go to a backup you are taking a step down...I'd rather step down to the young guy with a quick mind and a live arm than to step down to a washed up has been with an arm that goes dead in the second half.

I think Parcells is just hedging his bets here to find out if Romo can be the guy if Bledsoe can't cut it anymore or if he goes down for some reason.

Thanks for all the comments guys...

Personally, I think Henson is every bit as good as Romo. I don't feel any more comfortable, with Romo stepping in for an injured Bledsoe. I truly believe, Henson would have put up similar numbers Saturday night...maybe even better.

I'm anxious to see Henson respond to the challenge.

If this team is going to be a Super Bowl contender, history shows that you have to have 2 capable QBs and I think that was what Parcells was trying to find out with Romo. He ain't going anywhere IMO. Parcells needs to know he has something to go to if Bledsoe goes down or else the season is toast. Don't forget, the '91 team had Steve Beuerlein backing up Aikman and it was crucial because Beuerlein stepped in and won some games for us in that 11-5 wild card season including the wild card win at Chicago that gave us a preview of the budding dynasty. Now I'm not saying Romo is Beuerlein but the point is in today's NFL you have to have 2 capable QBs to survive. Bill knows he's been lucky getting full seasons out of Quincy, Vinny and Drew and that he needs to see Romo now and not when he's forced into it. If Romo plays well he's the backup case closed. And I am a Henson supporter but it doesn't look good for Mr. Henson if Romo plays like he did Sat.
