Lloyd and Karlaftis might have been interesting. I yawned when Kiper suggested Karlaftis but he has played very well for KC. Would have left a hole in the online though. Neither lasts as long as Smith will either.

It's worth mentioning though, that Linderbaum is a total stud. He just walked into the NFL and did this.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how high Biadasz is on that list. To me that proves they were right to not draft a center.

Yeah he was my pick too. Complete stud.

That said, Tyler Smith has been outstanding all things considered. Imagine if he could have just settled into one position for the season in May.
Tyler can both anchor and move. He doesn't run like an olineman. I'm often amazed seeing him run downfield.
He's got something special going on.
Hmmmm.....I told you at the time there was a better option, that you could plug in and count on for 12 years. Hey....you know the comparison was going to happen....better it comes from a nice guy like me.

I like Linderbaum, but he's physically limited.
Tyler is more of a project, but has higher physical upside. He's a year younger too. More room to grow.
Think about where you expect each to be in 4 more years.
Lacking length and power only gets worse as the years go by and players coming out of college keep getting bigger and stronger.
I *love* first round centers. The floor is usually very high on them. But Linderbaum's ceiling from that doesn't seem that high.
While Tyler Smith had some bust potential, but once seeing him in action, I see a special athlete. And his PFF grades keep climbing, despite being pushed back and forth between positions as a rookie, and despite being on the weak side of the oline.
If Tyler stays healthy, in 4 years no one will be asking this question.

He was, he can play tackle and guard and exactly what we needed with brittle Tyron Smith.

Biadiasz played well at center. What were we going to do when Tyron Smith went down and we did what you wanted to do? Have to rely on Josh Ball to play left tackle? Yikes.

All good responses....I was just asking for a friend. :)
“Hmmmm.....I told you at the time there was a better option”

Sounds more like you wanted to be right. Mr. Smith actually turned out to be the better option for our current needs, but let’s wait another 4 years to really determine who was the better option.

I loved Linderbaum too and wanted the cowboys to take him when they were on the clock and he was still there.

That said I don’t think they’re going to regret the Tyler smith pick either. It’s like years ago when they took Tyron smith over JJ Watt.
I thought they took tyron smith over aaron donald?

I like to think what would our offensive line been like if we had not of drafted Smith

There were probably 4 or so guys I would’ve taken ahead of him but time will tell.

I think he’s best suited for G, but no matter they do with him well know the answer in 3ish years.

I wanted Linderbaum, but Smith exceeded my expectations this year.

I do think Linderbaum was the better option, at least in the short term. That said, Tyler has totally outperformed expectations and has a much higher ceiling.

Tyler Smith stepped into the LT position with no camp and played well…LT is arguably the 2nd most important position on offence. I think we made the right choice…

Tyler was a need pick. The Cowboys were desperate for a OT. Tyler was the 7th one off the board. Obviously, Linderbaum is a great center but we had the position covered.

So l Linderbalm has had to play 2 different positions? I like him but not upset with the pick of Tyler Smith who has had to play Left tackle one of the toughest spots on the OL and LG because of injuries.

I admit I wasn't a fan of the pick. His scouting report was a tad worrisome with the sloppy mechanics part and penalties, along with some thinking he would be a guard in the NFL.

But so far, Smith has proved me wrong and he definitely seems like the right pick.
Biadasz is no Frederick, but he's a decent/good center. Drafting a new center, when LT was a bigger issue due to Tyrons' availability, didn't make a lot of sense to me unless Linderbaum was close to a HOF level center.

Going into the draft I wanted either Penning(LT) or a Defensive end.
