Nick Eatman said the Garrett has to not only win the division, but win that home playoff game in the first round to keep from getting fired. He sounded like he was pretty confident that this is how it is going to go, not just some wild speculation.

Who thinks Garrett beats SF in the first round?

I'm not so sure SF makes the playoffs. Lately, the Cardinals have looked like the second best team in that division. But, I don't think the Cowboys could beat them either.

With a loss to Carolina they may be sneaking in as the 6th seed.

IMO if this team puts up another embarrassing loss like they took in NO....he should be gone with or without winning a division and a playoff game. I am just tired of all the embarrassments this Cowboy team has had under Garrett. Something has to change.

I agree..........................I tell Opie that if the team gets curb stomped again, to start cleaning out his office.

This isn't news, tho. Is it? Hasn't the general thought process was that Garrett had to win a playoff game to keep his job? If not, maybe I assumed something else. Winning the division wasn't the end goal. Making noise in the playoffs was.

I agree...............................winning the division at 8-8 and then getting curb stomped by SF at home is not what I call a successful season.................Garrett has to go if we lose a home playoff game.

So when we go 8-8 next year with a different coach, who do we blame then?

Wade won 2 division titles and a playoff game in just about the same amount of time Opie has had losing to virtually every team with a winning record.

Maybe the next coach goes 8-8 as well, maybe he does better, maybe he does worse. No way to predict things like that. However, we now have a big enough sample size to know for sure Opie cant get it done so why keep a coach that you know is a loser?

And nobody give me this crap that the team quit on Wade and hasnt on Garrett................Rowan on Talking Cowboys basically said players were quiting on that last drive, he specifically named Bruce Carter. So this team quit just like they did in Green Bay if we are scoring this thing legit.

I have read a thousands posts saying Wade was fired because the team quit on him, even though he won a playoff game and division titles. Well the team just quit on Opie and the only victories he can point to are against sub 500 teams. So the team quits on Wade and he has to be fired, but the team quits on Garrett and he gets to stay?

Hypocrisy at its finest.

I'm not defending Garrett. But the team quit on Wade. Yes, they won a playoff game in '09. But they quit on him in '10. You can dispute it all you want. Doesn't matter. It happened. Then they quit on Garrett, albeit a much different roster. It's a cultural problem. Garrett's part of it, but only one part. If other changes aren't made, it won't change. They'll quit on the next coach, too. As long as the man paying the checks keeps excusing losing by keeping himself in his current position, and talking about moral victories, eventually they'll lay down, because they can.

I am not disputing they quit on Wade.............what I am saying is that the team quit on Garrett as well the other night.

Fair is fair........................if one goes in that situation, so does the other.

You're right, although one game where they were flat getting throttled isn't enough. If it becomes a repeated thing like it did with Wade, then yeah, he has to go. These last six games will say a lot. I just have gotten to the point where I don't think we'll ever be great again as long as Jerry is the face of the franchise. Won't matter who the coach is. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think so.

Exactly how was it repeated with Wade?

Prior to that Green Bay game, we did not lose a single game by double digits. Please point out all of these games where the team quit on Wade prior to the Green Bay game.

We got thumped by Jacksonville the previous game. Like 31-7, where it was obvious we didn't even show up. And after Romo went down in the NYG game, the only two guys that kept playing were Kitna and Dez. The D completely went in the tank.

Actually the Jax game was 35-17. Still, we made David Garrard look like a Hall of Famer, and we were never really in that game.

Yeah, the Jax game was terrible too.

But I think you may have hit on the key earlier: Romo knocked out for the year. Let that happen again (please don't) and see how hard they play.
