Wash. Post: Under NFL Rule, Media Web Sites Are Given Just 45 Seconds to Score

Anyone remember that great video the DMN shot and posted on its Web site?

Me neither.
Like that's an excuse for limiting access.

There have been times, by the way, when a PC didn't go up on DallasCowboys.com, but went up on a media site.

But I do run a Video blog for the fan....where do I fall? We are not consider "media" when it comes to getting media credentials but I'd bet we fall in that category on this issue.

I doubt it. the NFL isn't going to be going to a fan website, and patrolling what you put on there.

Yes, they will. The NFL is one of the strictest protectors of their IP.

They're all over Youtube. A vid made by a reporter for the Houston Chronicle has already been taken down....

This is all do to Snyders messings about. Once he got on that comitea that handles the internet deeds for the NFL I new it was just a matter of time before this was cuming all over us.

Just one more reason to hate at the Deadskin.

Does not matter to me because I look at very little video on the web. BUT it is a very stupid policy for the NFL because their sites are mostly a pathetic joke. Just about all the most popular sites for any team are ALL fan based or something OTHER then the teams web site. NFL.com is not all that great either.

Agree about NFL.com.
But as for the Cowboys official site...I disagree.
I remember years ago when Roy Williams was drafted...that web-site was a joke. But now they put up much more access to fans for the draft, news conferences and team news. They even put up the hour long press conference when Irvin made the hall of fame from the NFL network.
None of that stuff was available to regular fans 5 or 6yrs ago. Cowboys official web-site could be better but it is light-years ahead of where it use to be.
Don't get me wrong though... I love this site because I do not get the Dallas Morning News or the Fort Worth Star Telegram in my city so I really appreciate the articles posted on this site.
Heck man, I even live in Texas and can not get those papers.
For some reason last year Amarillo stopped carrying the Dallas Morning News.

The problem that I'm having is that I don't understand if it involves footage that I shoot. My camera and I will be at training camp, but I don't want to get in trouble for my posting my own content. I understand about the NFL's content, but I've heard that it involves ANY content of NFL players and practices....I'm so confused. Well, I staying wayyyy below the radar on this one until it is clear...
I'm not 100% sure Shango, but I think they mean footage from actual games. All of that footage is copyrighted by the NFL.

I happen to think this is a silly rule of theirs because much of the popularity of the sport is due to the media coverage of it and now they are limiting that.

I think this applies to just about all footage, including footage from camp.

Thanks to a new NFL policy, something will soon be in short supply on news-media Web sites: video of almost anything related to the NFL or its players.

In a move designed to protect the Internet operations of its 32 teams, the pro football league has told news organizations that it will no longer permit them to carry unlimited online video clips of players, coaches or other officials, including video that the news organizations gather themselves on a team's premises. News organizations can post no more than 45 seconds per day of video shot at a team's facilities, including news conferences, interviews and practice-field reports.

Well the article specifically says "news organizations" rather than "media." That leads me to believe that they're not going to try to end all video posting on the web.... at least not yet.

That's probably the author just using the terms interchangeably. They may not go after the "small fries," though.

Wow....this is amazing. I'm spending a boatload of money to bring the fans daily coverage of Training Camp and can't even show much actual footage....FROM MY CAMERA!!!!! I'll follow the rules, but you'd better believe that you'll get that :45 secs daily!!!!

The way I read it, it is 45 seconds per clip. So show a clip, talk for a while, show a clip, talk some more.

:D

I think it's 45 seconds per day. But I still don't think shango has to worry about it. He's not going to have press credentials, and he'll just look like a fan videotaping from the stands. I don't see how the NFL will regulate this on fan blogs.
