Wash Rinse Repeat

One thing I have to say..

What changed was FA.

We have never dealt with that well.

After the 90s team grew old..

the only thing we did was give Romo a huge deal without him winning anything.

Then TO was the same thing.

Huge deal and no money for other players to support them.

And here we are again about to pay DAK, Zeke, Cooper Tank, and soon Jaylon and Vander Esch, too.

Seeing this coming, I can easily see where they have set cap aside to deal with it..

but it's the same deal as before.

We are paying for future success when we have little to show for what has gone before.

I have come to terms with this owner.

He is about money and entertainment using the Cowboys and their stadium and now the Star as the main attractions.

He has branched into hosting college and HS football games, pro boxing, kick boxing fights, rock and country concerts and other events at ATT to keep the revenue flowing.

I can not even imagine what else he is into..restaurant franchises, etc.

So I just do not believe the Cowboys matter as much as what it provides the Jones Family in lifestyle.

This leaves us fans frustrated on the outside looking in..face pressed against the glass and wishing we could be happy with it all.

But it's just entertainment.

It's the Romans and their Collusium.

The Romans were no fools.

They kept the commoners occupied with gladiators and lions and collected taxes and fought wars, built navies, all for more riches and thru enormous parties for themselves for centuries.

Jerrah just bought a $500,000 yatch but it takes another million/ yr to staff and sail it.

That is what Jerrah is about.

Us?

We are stuck paying the freight and grumbling.

Nothing is going to change.

Sorry.
winning is just a happy coincidence at this point...guess that's what your also sayin.

Northern, he kinda sorta lowered it if he wants a short term 2 year deal. To me, that's a win for us if we can get his services. I don't mind 15 mil per on a 2 year deal as long as nothing is guaranteed and its an incentive laden deal to reach that number. Compare that deal to Collins, which is absolutely odd in my opinion. Collins isn't even in the top 10 of safeties if you base it on his performances last 2 years. Earl is easily a bargain if we can get him here short term. Then again, as you know, its lying season...we don't know whats fact or fiction. Each team and free agent has their poker face on. Kinda disagree ...I do think we are 1 MAYBE 2 guys away from making a strong SB push. ET would do a lot more than you think. The caveat being, we need to fix the interior dline...its a bad issue. Rams exposed us. Wonder if we can sign Suh short term too?

I didn't know he had shortened his expiry date to 2 years. Why would he do that? We may be 1 or 2 players away from making a strong push, I don't disagree with that because we pushed last year. Only 4 teams pushed further.

Ok, I'll change my statement, I don't think there is a "Charles Hayley" type player out there who I could say "That's the guy to put us in the SB". Personally, I think that's an Aaron Donald type DT but he only took the Rams one game further. Mostly I think those types of players are QB's and once in awhile a DT like Donald or a LB'er/DE like Miller or a S like Lott comes along. I agree it's time to change the safety smell however. And for the record I despise Suh as a player

agree. I will take that gamble on ET if reports are true and he is only asking for a 2 year deal.

I am not disillusioned. Just realistic in my expectations in a modern world.

Sorry.

I don't pay any freight, well a wifi bill that comes in monthly but I would pay that anyway. It's free entertainment and you guys are entertaining as well as the Jones derelicts. I do fuss and fume a bit. Minimal because I don't pay the freight. I'd grumble plenty if it was me payin. Ask the wifey ;)

They are drafting well but quit making a FA splash. They cannot put the 2 together. You can draft well and make a FA splash. They aren’t over paying on many contracts anymore but you cant low ball either. Sign our players and get players you need that are proven through FA. The draft is mostly a gamble that these kids are going to translate to the NFL. There is a few exceptions, RB usually translate. We knew Elliot was gonna be good so I had no problem with that pick.

Yep. They don't know balance. It's either one extreme or the other. You have to be able to both draft and use free agency to build a contender. We do not know how to do that. But fans keep patting them on the back for not "overpaying".

He hasn't signed anywhere yet Ray. So there is that. It's not my money and I can't say that I would spend $30 mill on any player but I'm a tight arsed sum beech.

We are contenders. Aren't we? 32 teams contend every year and the Pats take home the prize. I'm glad the prize isn't my best pig Hilda, I like bacon and we eat her one leg at a time. She walks with a limp now:laugh:

I mean, Jerry has failed every which way at this point. So nit-picking about one particular method of failing when Jerry also has a long history of failing doing the exact opposite of the method you're fussing about? Makes no sense.

Jerry tried buying championships in the late '90s and the mid-2000's and it worked even worse than our current method.

last year is a distant memory. He that stands pat and fails to improve, gets left behind. We need to get better. Failure is a choice, not by happenstance.

Overlookin the early to mid 90's are ya. It's FA that kills NFL teams not Jerry.

I'm overlooking the time that came before the modern system of free agency was in full-swing and the cap ramifications fully evolved, yes. That time is just not relevant to 2019 football.

When other teams were able to start signing away our complimentary players as we put all our eggs in the stars' basket (even at positions that were unwise to devote huge money towards), and NFL success became largely about drafting well and making smart & hard money decisions, Jerry's incompetence became a real crippling problem for us. Because the current system strongly rewards teams who are the best at the things Jerry is worst at.

Well let's be honest. 3-4 teams have had lasting power in the NFL in the 2000's. We can both name them... New England, Pittsburgh, Packers and I struggle to name a 4'th. Teams that are consistently in the hunt. Not teams that are there 1-2 years then gone. Maybe Baltimore. Certainly not the Rams, nor the Saints. All three are teams who have staid away from big name FA for the most part. Played in second tier mostly and developed internally. No, they haven't paid aging vets and yes they tend to move on quickly from players. That's my rap on the Cowboys, they have held on too long to some. As far as big name FA's I've seen many signed with little to show by other teams

Is it me or does it seem like the front office(not will mcclay)..but the Jones' , keep doing the very same failed tactics over and over again as if it were the Movie Ground Hog Day? Haven't WE seen this show before, where we bargain bin hunt and let some solid, thrifty signee's go to other teams? How did Deon Thompson work out for us last offseason after we signed him from the bargain bin? How did Tavon do? See the trend? So why then, employ the very same tactics AGAIN?!!!!

dunno but...
