Hey, the Seahawks came out of nowhere, anything is possible in the NFL

The Seahawks didn't "come out of nowhere", they made huge internal changes, flipped over their coaching staff and rebuilt the roster from the ground up. Noticeably without their owner putting together their draft boards.

Other than jettisoning our old and brittle DLine and gambling with almost as old replacements and hoping we get lucky in the draft, what are we doing this offseason that in any way resembles the complete foundational overhaul the Seahawks did?

San Fran might be a better example, but they also spent a lot of time losing and accumulating high first round draft picks before handing things over to a new coach with a new philosophy which quickly gelled the team. We are re-arranging deck chairs this off season, not much else.

I understand people want to think its a fluky and parity-driven league now and "anyone" can win, but most teams who surprise and come out of nowhere do so after making some fundamental changes in the way they operate. Its not the same set of the players with the same coaches and the same organization who suddenly go win a SB after going .500 for 4 years.

You might be pulling our collective leg.
I see that you went from "this is the year" to "likely" to "possible." But, gee, anything is possible.
It's just that this year our chances of even making the playoffs seem on par with the Hoffa being found in Jerra's luxury suite. Or Pee-wee Herman becoming co-owner of the Dallas Cowboys. Or Skip Bayless turning to Hare Krishna (Oh, he half?)

That's sarcasm used against his own position... Unless you think he was indirectly calling himself dumb?

His position is his opinion and he's entitled to that as is everyone else. I'm discouraging calling a group of people dumb no matter who they are or what they think. We delete posts that need it and his wasn't. But thank you for your clarification.

Yup we would prolly have to fire the head coach and add 35-40 players over the next 3 years to have a shot at turning things around. Maybe even add a couple first rounders to the line like the 9ers. Hope we do that sometime.o_O

How about we start with a new GM like the Niners did and go from there?

you would think that Dooms but the problem is that it just does not work that way

2013 we ranked #32 on defense, record? 8-8

2012 we ranked #19 on defense, record? 8-8

2011 we ranked #14 on defense, record? 8-8

so, the defense "doing a little better" or even average did not help

saying "if only our defense plays a little better we will do great next year" is just fools gold

there will be something else that comes up

mediocre teams find reasons to be mediocre, if the defense does a little better, we will find another reason

I think with the improvement on OL it does matter if the offense is putting up points and we did this past season. Any success we may have is going to fall more to the offense than the defense in my view but if defense can produce better than they have then we have a shot. We will see. I have not called this a potential SB team but yes I think they are capable of winning the east and again we will see.
I do understand what you are saying that teams find ways to lose and that is something else this team must learn and until they do that there will be some who will doubt their ability as a team.

I think with good health we will be better. With poor health worse. In either scenario, 8-8.

That is the one issue I hope they can figure out, I have never seen so many hamstring injuries on one team. Some injuries there is not much you can do to prevent but you would think there is something they can do to lessen all these hamstring issues.

I hear ya. I don't think injuries would be so damaging if they allocated more draft resources to the trenches year after year. Our WRs and LBs would be interchangeable if our lines were strong and physical IMO.

I don't know some of those guys you can't easily replace.

What I always tell friends and other cowboy fans that think I'm negative. I have hope and I have expectations. They aren't always the same thing. Very seldom are they the same thing. Whether I go into the year thinking 4-12 or 12-4 for my expectations my hope is always different. I'm always gonna hope we when it all. As a fan I think everyone would hope that. That's how I read the op that he's just holding out hope and it would be funny if we did. I just told a friend that yesterday. Wouldn't it be funny if we went to the super bowl and denver doesn't. Not a prediction just a thought. I figured the usual suupects would be in the thread turning it into something its not. I'm a negative nancy when it comes to the cowboys but some of you take it to a whole different level.

Be awfully tough not to improve on the one we have.

Theres definitely better ones out there but it's easier to find a bad one than it is a good one and then you've killed 4-5 years in the process and many teams have went through allot of different GM's before finding one. I never take that serious because it's not likely to happen as long as Jerry can get around, if I thought it was a possibility I would be putting together a mock staff the way other people do mock drafts. If Jerry would just limit the number of people with input and not go ape trading for wideouts he would be good enough of a GM. All I can do is hope he learned something from the 2010 collapse and lack of talent they've been trying to replace ever since.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Perhaps this is the exact magic foo foo dust taking its effect that Jerry spreads around every offseason.

I'm pessimistic, because Jerry and this team has made me this way.

I would like to shock, the world, but it won't happen.
