now if about 8 teams got destroyed by injuries, suspensions, etc maybe. Otherwise only those who have no knowledge of football at all would think we had a chance

Every year since 97, all I've heard is "next year we will do this". I wish that all the sunshiners would come in after the season and say "I was dead wrong once again". I used to pump sunshine, until I woke up, actually used my brain instead of my heart, and realized that we have parts on this team/coaching staff/ and front office that will NEVER allow us to win.

Here's hoping you are right. It would be nice to finally have a happy New Year with this team :)

Yeah, because everyone who thinks this team has no chance is just dumb. .. nobody in the world outside of a handful of fans on this board Legitimately thinks this team team can win the sb this year .. . Why should they?

i think the odds are long but it's not out of the question for it to happen. I think too many things would have to fall in place but each year teams come out of nowhere. Sometimes it's one or two key players and they can not even start early on.

And don't indirectly call people dumb please.

One or two outlying posters a year post things like that. If you ever look at the public record prediction threads, there's very little difference between the projections of most of our "realists" and the predictions of most of our generally more supportive posters.

I just don't understand the reason you'd spend march on a forum or even watch games if you actually thought there was 0% chance. If there hasn't even been a draft or one game played and you ALREADY are hating your own team then why waste time talking about it? I'm not saying run around RAH RAHing about them but to say there is "no way in the world" I would just think there would be more fun things to do with your time

Most of us on this board have been Cowboy fans since the time we could walk. Nobody on this board "hates the team".

With that being said, being a fan of the team also does not require you to leave your common sense at the login screen. Most of us realize we have a head coach that is probably the worst head coach in the league in terms of game management. Why do we believe this? Maybe because each of us have watched every single game (I have not missed one game since 1988) and we have seen Garrett botch games no other coach has ever botched. So based on past experience, safe to say Garrett is going to both his usual 2 or 3 games this coming year.

Next is the talent level. We have the worst defense in the entire NFL and we just let Ware and Hatcher walk out the door. Regardless of if it was the right decision or not, those two guys accounted for over 52% of our sacks last year. You don't just plug in a couple of rookies and expect them to tandem for 20 sacks, that is ridiculous. That is why so many folks are hoping we can sign Melton an Allen, or at least one of them.

Even Spags said on Talking Cowboys that right now there is absolutely no reason to think this team should be any better than 500 next season............none.........and that is Mr. Happy, company man, always positive, if they are so good why are they available, Mikey Spagnola.

If he is saying there is zero chance right now to win the SB next year, how the hell do you think most fans feel?

Haha.

Every other year for the past several years, we Cowboys fans have been filled with hope because our roster has been fairly stocked with talent.

And every year, we end up being mediocre because of a combination of injuries, bad coaching and finding the most absurd way to lose games.

The way the NFL is today, where cellar dwellers become division champs overnight and #6 seeds advance to the Super Bowl, watch this year be the one the Cowboys finally get some luck and health bounce their way and these young players that none of us have any faith in start finding ways to win close games instead of lose them in the most ridiculous of ways.

Just saying... It could happen. Is it likely? No. But it's possible. Anything in today's NFL is. And even though a lot of fans have already thrown in the towel on this season, my silver and blue tinted sunglasses won't allow that to happen.

Once that first ball is kicked off in early September, no matter what no name defensive tackle is lined up next to whichever no name defensive end, I'm gonna believe my Cowboys have a shot at taking it all this year.

With a great draft I wouldn't be suprised . Selvie is gonna have 12 sacks this year

This is too funny.

This reminds me of my high school students telling me they're going to ...

... play in the NBA
... become rich and famous rap stars
... become models
... win the lottery

Their justification? COULD HAPPEN.

Yep ... could happen.

In today's NFL, it's not unrealistic to say we have a chance. It's unrealistic to say we don't.
This.

Regular and post season short-circuits have created a number of jaded Cowboys fans. That is completely understandable. However, it will be BEYOND fascinating to witness individual reactions to a season where coaching and player execution is solid, overall roster health is not detrimental, and the ball bounces our way more often than not. Will such a thing happen in 2014? Who knows, but it would be enormously interesting to dig up this thread next year if it were.

Well, if our defense improves we certainly have a chance IMO. One example, the offense scored at least 28 points in 8 games and we lost half of them.

In today's NFL it's entirely possible because every team has a chance...especially those with quality QB play.

This is the exact reason we WON'T have a chance. Our QB locks up when it comes to playoffs or even win and you're in games.

Hey, the Seahawks came out of nowhere, anything is possible in the NFL

Not banking on it but I will say Dallas has an offense that will be in tact and is amongst the top offense, I know some don't think it but this offense can put up the points. If somehow Marinelli can get this defensive unit turned around then we have a chance to compete

This is on the nosey. If we score roughly the same and the defense improves five points or more then we can compete. It's that simple. Now how they do that is the hard part.
