Watching Barber over the last couple of years(and some in preseason)....

I dont think last year was an abberation as far as his TD total goes...

Garrett is gonna get the same 14 or more out of this kid. The kid is a rising :starspin

Last year after two preseason games, both JJ and mb3 had 20 carries each. This year, JJ has 15 carries and Barber has 23.

Watch very closely Sat night.

I'm not sure that's meaningful, really, because last weekend Julius was playing very well. He was getting goalline carries even, and then was simply taken out. I'm not sure if that would have happened in a regular season game. It just doesn't make sense to take a RB who is playing well out of the game intermittently.

I just hope Barber gets a chance this season to get more of the load than he did last year.

They are featuring Barber for a trade. Watch out. It is the first sign. The first sign that I am losing my mind. :D

I'm not sure it was planned that way, but if the trend continues in the next game, then it's meaningful. It would mean Julius is getting fewer carries than Barber, which wouldn't be such a bad thing for either one of them.

Or it could be they are resting Jones so as not to injure him before a trade. :laugh2:

Most likely it was a result of them wanting to give both backs carries against a first team defense. Once they saw that Julius was running well and making good cuts, what's the point of keeping him in? Barber didn't look as good in Week 1, so maybe they wanted to see something out of him against first teamers in Week 2.

Honestly, no offense, but I just think it's a pretty weak theory. There are simply too many variables and explanations other than the simple notion that more carries in preseason equals more carries in the regular season.

LOL... thats funny...

ACTUALLY Drew Rosenhaus has shown interest in Barber.... NOW we know Barber has made it!!

Barber's play is money. Now he will get money.

No offense taken, because I wasn't offering any theories.

Just comparing a tiny sample from 2007 to an equally tiny sample from 2006.

If that theory holds water, you'd have to extrapolate out their season totals.

50/50 in the preseason last year equated to Jones getting roughly 2/3 of the regular season carries.

A roughly 60/40 split this preseason for Barber would equate to a closer regular season split but it would still favor Jones.

That's if there's no reason to believe Phillips will deviate from what Parcells did last year.

I think there is a good reason to believe that he will deviate, though. In 2006, JJ's percentage was actually up over 71% for the first 8 games.

Over the last 8 games it went down to 57%.

Since JJ broke 3.8 ypc four times in the first 8 games, and only did it one time over the last eight, I think (and hope) Phillips won't be following what Parcells did too closely.

Julius Jones is the starter, should get the bulk of the carries. Barber's role is exactly what he is doing now, no more, no less.

Seriously -- what does that have to do with anything?

Early in last year's preseason, we weren't using Julius and Barber the way we did in the regular season. When the first-teamers were in, Julius was on the field for third-and-short, third-and-long and goal line carries. Barber came in when the second-teamers came in.

This year, when the first-teamers are in, we've been using them just like normal -- Julius gets the bulk of the carries, and Barber gets most of the situational carries (third downs and red zone). And when Julius goes out with the other first-teamers, Barber stays in and gets all of the carries.

Unless we have the luxury of resting our first-teamers -- or until Barber becomes the starter -- the breakdown of carries is likely to remain about the same, regardless of what it has been in the preseason.

Barber is the better player no doubt in my mind and should start and get the majority of the touches.

Just watch the two players for Gods sake...there is no way that Jones is the better player.

What i hope really what is going on here is that the coaches realize that Jones is most effective if you limit his carries. He comes out the gate strong lets hope we can ride it better this time.

Strongly Agree with what is said. Julius Jones was not the moron who scored 14 tds last season because he is not goaline savy and tough enough to get it done. Against the Broncos game Julius barely squirted in for the touchdown while you see how Barber gets it done he leaped over to score showing with ease it is for him to score TD! This year watch Barber be the proclaimed TD Machine!:shoot2:

I think Barber is the better player. I won't say he should start because then you are messing with what worked so well last year as a whole. If you are going to make me pick between the two as to who I keep and who I let go.....Barber stays without a moment of hesitation. I think it would be far more difficult to replace barber then it would be to replace Julius.

I would like to see a more equal split but would be content with Julius getting more.

I absolutely love MB3. I get more excited watching him run than JJ. However, I would be foolish to not realize they both bring something unique to the table. It's a game planning nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators to deal with preparing for a home run threat along with a shifty powerful back that will bust you in the mouth and break tackles.

Wade & company are doing the right things right now. Get MB3 more involved but keep JJ involved as well. Our 1, 2 punch this year is going to be unstoppable. Romo is a very very happy man. The play action is going to be SICK. :starspin

Get ready to hear this often: play action handoff to MB3... skinny post to Terrell running out of the slot. TOUCHDOWN!
