With Dak coming off the injury.
And his mobility may be cut back a bit.
He is more of a pocket passer and runs only when needed.
And Mahomes running for his life most every play.
With the Jones family watching.
This just reinforces my belief - the O line matters the most to the Cowboys.

The Cowboys draft o line OT in the first round.

No. They don’t. They can, but it’s not necessary.

Health is key. Smith, Collins, Martin and Biadasz all were hurt last season. Williams is in need of an upgrade but I believe McGovern is that guy.

Smith - McG/Williams / Biadasz / Martin / Collins

Would love a guy like Leatherwood in Round 2 or Hudson in round 3. Only guy I’m going at 10 is Sewell

I do agree the offensive line is everything, but the Cowboys defense was historically bad. This may not be a 1 year solution, but they need to get that defensive line upgraded somehow.

If you look at Tampa Bay's roster, you see a blend of draft picks and free agent acquisitions/trades. The Bucs drafted 4 of their starting 5 OL. They filled in gaps with free agent TE, WR, RB. They drafted their secondary but spent heavily on veteran DL and LB.

Of course their QB was a free agent as well. The point is, we have seen this model before. A couple of year ago the Giants completely revamped their defense in 1 season by making a few free agent acquisitions.

The Cowboys must change their philosophy. It's like they are fighting with one hand tied behind their backs because they refuse to sign players like JPP. Instead they overpay their own guys.

Buccaneers
LT Donovan Smith - 2nd round
LG Ali Marpet - 2nd round
C Ryan Jensen - 6th round
RG Aaron Stennie - Undrafted
RT Tristan Wirfs - 1st round 13th overall

RG Alex Cappa 3rd round
C AQ Shipley 7th round

Chiefs
LT Eric Fisher 1st round 1st overall
LG Nick Allegretti 7th round
C Austin Reiter 7th round
RG Andrew Wylie Undrafted
RT Mike Remmers Undrafted

RT Mitchell Schwartz 2nd round

So a total of TWO 1st rounders were starters on their team this season. One was a rookie. Only one top ten pick on OL for either team

JPP was traded for.

However, the point made is good, it refers to a guy like Suh. He was instrumental, but only after they got a NT beside him and put him at 3 tech where he belongs.

Obviously Brady is the goat...but it just shows you how important winning the line of scrimmage is.

Mahomes is a better QB right now, but TBs OL and DL balled out and were much better.

Problem is, Jerry doesn't appear to comprehend what makes a good OL. We take guys like Brewster, Arkin, Chaz Green, and Sam Young in the mid/late rounds, guys who were never going to work out. For some odd reason, we simply look at the wrong things in OL's.

After watching the super bowl, I'm not too sure any more. Sure, Mah is more physically talented, but Brady is obviously the better QB.

And did you notice what the TB OL's have that ours does not? Durability.

If we are fortunate enough to make the playoffs it's a 50/50 chance at best that Smith wouldn't be hurt. The Packers were down the LT Bakhtiari and that was all it took for them to get after Rogers the whole game.

I'm sorry how is trading for and paying JPP better than just signing DLaw?

JPP, more realistically, was the exact kind of move that everyone hates Jerry for making - kick the tires and hope there's upside on an aging/injured player. Did we forget that he blew his hand off?

A full grown GOAT is called exactly that, Goat. You'd never guess what a baby goat is called? "kid" How appropriate is that lol.

I was not specifically speaking of JPP, but JPP has played many games since blowing his hand off and he was still a productive player. That said, my point was not just about JPP, my point was the Bucs were a mix of draft and other players acquired through FA and trades.

btw, JPP has 30.5 sacks, 32 tackles for loss and 7 forced fumbles his last 3 years. DLaw has 22 sacks, 37 TFL and 6 FF over the same period. JPP signed for $12.5 million per year and Lawrence signed for $21 million per year. Za'Darius Smith has 26 sacks, 29 TFL and 5 FF in 2 years with GB and he signed for $16.5 million. I keep harping on the concept of value. If not for the CAP, I could give a rats behind how much Jerry paid anyone. But with the CAP, value is everything. Maybe it is not easy to find the best values, but it is the GMs job and Jerry is failing miserably at it.

Yes, you specifically said JPP, so yes you were.

Your concept of value is stupid because it is based entirely on box scores and your logic is totally flawed because JPP got traded while on his contract comparable to DLaw's. Smith isn't nearly as good of a player as DLaw and didn't deserve a contract that big, no matter how much hindsight you want to use.

The Bucs aren't a model for anything. Their entire SB is predicated on failing with the QB they drafted and then signing Tom Brady who, last I checked, doesn't come available every year. Like Philly, they took a shot in the short-term and it happened to work. But it's not sustainable and requires a huge amount of luck.

Brady and Mahomes are both excellent QB, however they actually do not play against each other. I can promise you Brady did not watch any tape on Mahomes, he watched tape on KC defense and where he could attack it. TB OL gave Brady the protection and the OL allowed TB to be able to run the ball for 150 with both RB avg over 5 yards a carry. In the end TB won because they were the better team on that day both offensively and defensively. Brady played Eli Manning 2 times in the SB with NY winning both of them but no way I would claim Eli the better QB

I said "like JPP" meaning players of his caliber to fill in spots where they are weak.

I know. That would include JPP. And there's a direct parallel between him and Dallas' "own" guy who they signed.

There aren't many guys on the Bucs "like JPP."

The fan base is obsessed with sinking 1st rounders and huge money into the OL. I’ll never get it.
