Would you bring back Waters for 1 year at LG for a reasonable salary... maybe $2M? If healthy, how much better is Waters at this stage compared to Leary? I like Leary, but I can't help but think Waters can still play at a higher level. I look at the following line and it looks dominant (except for Free).

LT - Smith
LG - Waters / Leary
C - Frederick
RG - Martin
RT - Free

Having Waters will decrease the wear and tear that Leary receives on his degenerative knee. I'd even consider rotating Waters and Leary at the position with Waters getting 70% of the reps. Maybe this will buy us another year for Leary down the road. I'd keep Bernadeau also even if that implies a 4th guard.

Leary was pretty good last year and he is only 25, why stop his progress by bringing back Waters for 1 year... Berny played pretty good too and can serve as a reliable back-up to Martin.Fredricks and Leary if need be, with Parnell backing up both tackles.... I wouldn't mess with the line anymore.

Waters is done and I think the Cowboys are done with Waters.

I do believe they add a veteran guard as a back up.

Startes: Smith/Leary/Fred/Martin/Free
Backups: Parnell/Berny/Berny/Berny/Parnell

Unless they have high hopes for Weems, I think we need another interior OL.

I think he is involved in a How To Video project, it's called how to sit on your couch through training camp and still collect millions of dollars. Think it is going to be a big seller with the vets.

Yes, in a heart beat. He brings great leadership to the o-line and played decent until he got hurt. No brainer.

By decent you mean top 10 guard? :)
I would love to have him back for another year. After that he's probably done.

What bothers me is referring to Leary and Bernadeau as pretty good. Waters still had a different level of strength last year. I don't think you slow Leary's development to a point where he's not going to be effective. Does anyone feel that Leary has a chance to be very good this season... even dominant on occasions? If so, I'm not interested in Waters. I'm not interested in pretty good if we have another high power option for a good price.

Yes. He only cost us $1.5 million last year. If he'd take another deal like that I'm in.

Don't know about that. I value him more for his leadership and experience that he can instill in the young guys more than his playing ability. I do think he's capable of playing at a higher level than Bernadeau.

Dudes a Beast but at this point he's a progress stopper....

I'd get him on the staff somehow. Pay him whatever, It won't count against the cap.

I'd sign him to a one-year nonguranteed deal, allow him to mentor Martin, and cut his butt at the last cut. :p Of course it's an irrelevant scenario since the dude does not do training camp.
