How many times has Watkins been "scorched"? Mind you, on the Plaxico play he wasn't "scorched" he simply didn't attempt a play on the ball. Both he and Plax were basically standing still at the time.

Does it really matter how he's getting beat if the result (a big play TD) is consistently the same? At this point, if they go deep on Watkins, does anyone have any confidence he'll make a play?

Counting on a rookie 5 round Free Safety to cover starting NFL wideouts is a big risk. No doubt that every team has tried to get deep ball in there after the Philly game.

I dont have a problem with the kid or him starting. I do think the need to protect him a bit, a Cover 2 zone is alot to ask. I would rather they let our corners cover and let the FS play centerfield. Protects him and lets him try to learn ( and GAIN confidence) to make plays. The silly corner blitzez show how much they want to protect him...why not blitz the FS and let a corner cover. Seems like its just not solid coaching here to me.

DING! DING! DING!

That's the point right there.

That's why we're getting hosed on first down. We play a soft zone and we get spanked.

I don't have a problem playing a man-under, 2-deep but a corner should have been on Plex.

I do.

As a matter of fact they did try it again and while the kid should have had a pick the fact is the play resulted in an incomplete.

If/when he gets a pick or two in that situation and that nonsense will stop.

I have far more confidence in him than I do "killeh" or the drunk.

Plus that was kind of a freak play.

Sure. And I don't fault him for messing up - we had to expect this. As mentioned above, it's much more inexplicable that the team is putting him 1 on 1 on a player like Burress this early. Once he gets experience, if he lives up to his physical capabilities, that's a matchup we've got to like. Right now, it's garbage.

I've never seen a team have it's weaknesses so exploited. Right now, our coaching blows.

Watkins needs to be ready. As we know, Davis could be shot at any time.

Bill Parcells mentioned in his Press Conference yesterday that the kid was getting a ton of interceptions in Training Camp but doesn't know what is going on with him now.

Troy Aikman just said on the Radio, that when Eli Manning threw that pass to Plex, he thought it was going to be intercepted, but Watkins just couldn't find the ball.

- Mike G.

I think Troy thought Roy was going to pick it off.

He mentioned both.

He said Roy tripped and he said Watkins couldnt find the ball. But I think the main reason he thought it was going to be picked off because there was major pressure being applied (I watched the game last night again and I believe it was Kevin Burnett, #57).

Eli just side stepped it and chunked it.

If nothing else, Roy was gonna lay a lick on Burress. Anything but a sure thing in that instance.

Man to man coverage was what it amounted to with Roy going down. I will fault him for the plays in Philly, but I have a hard time critisizing him for his coverage on Plax in this case. He was stride for stride with PLax and had it not been for the ref knocking down Williams this thread would not be in existence.

Hey, our corners rarely play the ball and we have a rookie FS with tight coverage and we expect him to play the ball?

He had better coverage on Plax than Newman did when they completed the one down the sidelines.

In the press conference Bill said Watkins was in a position to make a play and didn't. The next statement was you will see Coleman next week. What do ya'll think?

Norm just finished talking about this on The Ticket. He thinks Pat will not be active. Everybody's focusing on Romo but our defense has made some huge mistakes also. We do realized we're going up against Steve Smith Sunday night, don't we? On the bright side, didn't we shut him down last year? Didn't we win that game in Carolina last year with Bledsoe. With motivation, incintave (sp), and Romo ... I'm expecting us to do well.

Eli was 12-26 , 46.2 % completion percentage - 80.4 QB rating.

If Roy does not get taken out by the ref what is his rating?

The biggest problems I had with our defense was run defense, not pass defense.

I agree. Run defense was as poor as I have seen thus far this year. Guys taking bad angles and allowing the backs to run around them. Poor tackling with 1 guy making the hit and others just standing there watching instead of finishing the ball carrier off and my least favorite guys stripping at the ball instead of making the tackle. I know Barber is a good back and a hard runner and I give him some credit but our guys looked pathetic in run defense for the better part of the game

Could you tell me how Newman, heck how anyone could have had better coverage on Burress on the play down the sideline?

"coverage" is not just running stride-for-stride with the receiver. it also includes turning on the incoming ball.

Couldn't have done anything if he knew it was coming. Credit to Eli, that ball was thrown perfectly over the outside shoulder.
