It is. But the games don't begin until Sept last I checked.

That is true and things can change, however as of tonight this team is worse, not better.

That is the whole point Spags was making, that callers/emailers to the show needed to realize that letting Ware and Hatcher walk has consequences, like 19 sacks just walking out the door and you don't just replace that production like its no big deal.

I'm always stunned by how out of touch some of these posters are.

Rebuilding has less to do with the QB than they want to admit. Do these people think that Denver didn't rebuild before they won their super bowl with elway?

They absolutely did. So did Green Bay, though they ultimately got a different QB.

They aren't rebuilding the offense, they're rebuilding the defense, more particularly they are rebuilding the defensive line. They actually just rebuilt the secondary and linebacker corps in the last few years.

Don't try to overstate what this is.

The problem is age. If Romo were 28, it would be fine and no change would be needed at quarterback for rebuilding reasons. If the Cowboys don't find the qb soon, they're risking spoiling the primes of their best offensive weapons.

A 36 year old QB coming off of 4 neck surgeries just set NFL records for TDs and Yards Passing. QBs don't age like RBs.

I get you but then again QB's aren't usually Peyton Manning, I'm a Romo fan by the way.

They should of went into rebuild mode two years ago, I am glad they may finally be seeing the light.

I think that is a bit backwards. I think the QB is the most important weapon on an offense, and moving on from Romo to search (and it would be a search) for a legitimate replacement could do more to spoil their primes. People seem to think that we will draft a replacement, and that replacement will for sure be legitimate. Ask the Browns, Dolphins, Jaguars, Bills, Jets, Titans, Raiders, Broncos*, Eagles, Vikings, Buccaneers, Cardinals, and Rams how difficult it is to find a QB.

I don't think Jerry has any idea how to find a QB if he's not drafting number 1 and there's not a sure thing at the top of the draft. He lucked in to Romo. If not for Romo, we would still be trotting out late round prospects we drafted in the 2nd round, minor league baseball flame outs, and statuesque free agents at QB.

I think that goes for everyone in the league. It's a crap shoot, which is why it is puzzling when people want to give up on Romo so quickly. It's a huge investment to draft a qb in the first round and not have them work out. Generally means that an entire system will have to go and a lot of weapons and coaches with it. That is why Jones tried to manage elsewhere. We didn't have a 1st round draft pick when we drafted Quincy Carter, so they drafted a QB as early as they could. They wanted to get a steal out of Henson, which is why we traded a 3rd round draft pick for him. There are a lot of misses in the 1st round.

It's very likely that our next QB is 26-27 years old, and is already starting for some team now.

I think there is a lot of truth in that. I think that is a somewhat successful model.

One of the primary reasons why I was all for bringing in Colt McCoy was because I thought he could learn a lot from Romo, and could slide in behind him when the time comes.

Disagree. Plenty of teams know what to look for, and know how to build a system to fit the QB and make him successful. This one doesn't.

How many teams have had back to back franchise QBs? How many teams have had 3 consecutive franchise QBs?

I'll be very interested in your response.

I would hope not.

Same here. That is a frightening thought considering how bad the QBing is in this league.

When players like Matt Cassell and Matt Schaub are coveted as placeholders in free agency, that 26-27 year old starting right now is them about two years ago.

I'd rather shoot for the stars in the draft and hope to obtain a true franchise QB rather than signing a veteran. Teams usually don't let great QBs get away.

That is about the only way to find a QB and even that is a huge risk but it is the least.

You just do not see teams that have a relatively decent QB go anywhere unless there are drastic circumstances. Even the awful ones get re-signed. Look at Cassel and Chad Henne.
