What I learned in this thread is the worst case scenario for the Cowboys is they would need one starting DL and some depth.

That is a load off my mind.

Maybe what you should learn is how to comprehend what you read. I said Dallas would need a SDE 3tech and depth just on the DL alone. Crawford and Bass are going to compete for the 1tech thats a given. Team was insanely high on Bass. You people view this team and go by your wants. I read too much info on the Cowboys and try to base my opinions on what the Cowboys have and how the coaches feel about these players. Its clear this staff like Ware, Crawford, Bass, Selvie. They are going to be a core going into 2014. Ware is going to start on the weakside, thats obvious. Crawford IMO from what i read and hear on radio from people in valley ranch is that Crawford will go into 2014 the fav to be that 1 tech they wanted this yr. They dont want no big wide body to clog up a middle. They want a strong DT that can get off the ball and fill a gap in a run game, and get up the middle in a passing down. to give you an example, they wanted Hatcher to be that 1tech. And if Ratliff wouldve played he wouldve been that 1tech and Rat the 3tech. Thats why Hatcher almost asked to be traded. Bass had everybody turning their heads and had hatcher telling the media in TC that Bass would probably be the reason he wouldnt be in Dallas in 2014.

I'll admit my error in judgement. But I know it's not happening. He came into this season healthy and looked great in the preseason and training camp practices. As the season wore along he started to break down all over his body. If it was just one body part I could understand, but everywhere? Same exact thing will happen next year LM.

This is my opinion also. I would not restructure even if he stays.

Bro, you are "suffering".

Some advice...get off the computer, go find a woman/girl, and get you mind right!

To be honest, I have not read a positive post from you in a long, long time. It must be sad to be a miserable as you and some others around here. lol
lol i've actually taken a step back already believe it or not. i post majority on the phone and the woman is fine and taken care of thank you very much. :)
After Free took a cut how does Ware avoid it?
Ware has a lot more clout in the organization. A LOT more.

Could see him taking a pay cut in years going forward even if he rebounds. $12.25M might be expensive but if he remotely rebounds he's worth the money in the upcoming years. Cutting him is the wrong move, and he has no trade value unless we take the hit on the cap. Not worth it. This is the right move in this particular case, don't get the outrage.

Years going forward? How many more could he have after next season? lol

I like Crawford. He is solid against the run. he showed some of that his rookie yr. They were excited about him this yr. I think he wouldve started the 1tech this yr with hatcher.

Crawford is a pure 4-3 SDE, but I can see this franchise misusing him to try and bandaid a gaping wound at 1Tech because we love building our DL the unconventional way. Why invest a high draft pick on a true space eating 1Tech now?... We've been doing it backwards for years, full steam ahead.

I don't believe that this year was an accurate representation of him going forward. He was plagued by injuries, players of his caliber don't often fall off that rapidly. Speaking of the hamstring debacle, have we brought in an expert yet? About half our team had hamstring injuries over this season lol.

And the bad news just keeps rolling in. I wonder if releasing Ware even crossed their mind or if it's just unthinkable to them...

Been saying it from the beginning.
Hoss Jones doesn't have the stomach for the HARD CHOICE.

I'm not going to go on record saying this is the worst thing in the world.
Maybe he can return to a semblance to his former self.
Maybe he can dominant again- with some help.

But to say this was unexpected- only a fool would have said that.
I'm thinking Austin goes nowhere either.

If there was a line on it in Vegas- I'd put hard-earned cash on it.

Anybody who watched even a youtube highlight video of Crawford at Boise State would know he's not even close to a 1 tech. The kid is a gifted athlete, he should be a DE without a doubt. And I'm about 90% sure even our front office and coaching staff recognizes that and that's why he trimmed down and played DE before getting hurt last year. Crawford was never and will never be a 1 tech.

Who said anything about guaranteeing him more money in the future? The only issue is whether we pay him what he is due in 2014 or try to pay him less.
Restructuring pushes more money into the future, no?

Lol if Ware has a bounce back yr this forum will act like they never said a bad word about him.

I won't, what happens the year after at 33 or 34 years old? They still owe him a boatload of money and will still be years away from fielding a Super Bowl ready team. Good to see jerry is so loyal but time to think past the next year and make a 3-5 year plan, obvious they don't have one now or they wouldn't be backloading contracts of aging regressing players... I also understand the what if but does anyone understand that goes both ways? What i he gets paid and has an injury like Spencer???

I see him as both DE and DT1 Valuable player , as the defensive front rotates players in through the game it is so nice to have a guy who can move over a bit. Especially if #94 is out again on some new ailment.

A lot of people reacting in this thread to Calvin Watkins saying he was told second hand that Demarcus Ware doesn't 'expect' to be cut. That's about as speculative as it gets, in my book. Just the 'Calvin Watkins' part alone means I'm only half-listening to start with. The somebody-told-him-what-Ware-expects part, well, that's the other half of what I'm not listening to.

I love the guy, but I'd release him, outright, I think. If he'd essentially cut his salary in half, I'd be thrilled, but he's obviously not going to do that. Burst or not, I'm not comfortable betting that much cap on a player whose production has declined--for whatever reason--for two years running.

I agree. He was great. Now he sucks.

My guess is with the coaching staff staying in place, I can see our FO restructuring Ware and Resigning Hatcher after June when Hatcher realizes he won't get top dollar due to his age. He should look at the interest teams sought for Seymour( who has had a more productive career) and their unwillingness to pay top dollar to FA's on the wrong side of 30.

Outside of Free, is there any Cowboy player of even minimal importance to the team who fears getting cut or taking a pay cut this year? It wouldn't surprise me if half the players reached some escalator clause in their contract this past season triggering more money for 2014.

What kind of message to the team does this send if your defensive leader was absolutely putrid 75% of the time and gets rewarded with more money up front via a restructure? Carter and Claiborne seem to be quick learners and are on their way to mastering and milking this idiotic process. Does anyone on this team even have an ounce of pride?

Money spent (cap hits) in 2013 on Ware ($10M), Carter ($2M), Claiborne ($6M), Carr (10M), Spencer ($10M), and Ratliff ($8M) was pretty much a complete waste. I'm roughly guessing on the salaries but probably somewhere in the ballpark. Talk about a horrible return on investment. Roughly $50M spent on the cap in 2013 for these players and what did we get in return? Jack squat. And Ware has the audacity to say he ain't taking a pay cut. I don't want him on my team anymore. Restructuring Ware is complete nonsense.
