Right, you named the ONLY 2 tough games Detroit has left. They win all the others and they are sitting at 11-5. Detroit is getting the first wild card spot. We will be fighting with SF, and Seattle for the last remaining wild card spot if we don't win the division. I see us beating out Seattle because they have a very tough remaining schedule and seem like a team that is starting to self destruct from the inside but SF seems like they are playing decent ball. I only see them losing one or maybe 2 games for the rest of the season. Split with Seattle, beat the Commanders, Oakland, SD, and then their last game is the Cards in SF that could be a toss up. So, at max they lose 2 games and are 10-6 holding a tie breaker over us. I could see us losing 3 more games and missing the playoffs because of being tied with SF.

Lions remaining schedule.

Patriots
Bears in Detroit
Bucs in Detroit
Min in Detroit
Bears in Chicago
Packers in GB

They could lose to the Bears or Vikes. You know division rivals and all that.

Playoffs don't start tomorrow, so I'm remarkably ok with this. Lots of division games yet to be played.

Yeah I don't really get these kinds of threads. Tiebreakers and things of that nature don't actually matter until the last game is over.

Who cares? Still a long way to go before we start talking about tie breakers. And who knows...we are 4-0 on the road this year. Maybe a wild card isn't so bad, especially if we can get the 5 seed and play the NFC south winner. Thats practically a bye week anyways.

I know they're not anywhere near as good this year as in the past, but I sure as hell don't want to play the Saints in New Orleans in a first round playoff game. I think we're obviously the better team, but I don't want to have to play there. Let's just win the division and earn a bye. Not likely, but not out of the question either.

Very slight chance to the Bears but no way to the Vikings. I'm telling you, it's out of SF, Seattle, and Dallas for that 2nd wild card if we don't win the division. Let's just hope we take care of business and win the division so we don't have to worry about it.

So you might as well sleep through the season, wake up, for last game and say....oh, we won the division....wonder how we did it.....

When will the NFL finally change how the playoff seeding is done? There should be a 3rd wildcard imo and the division winners shouldn't automatically have the higher seed if there record isn't as good as other teams that didn't win their division. Ex) NFC South

What does matter is how tough it will be to end with a high seed.

Dallas needs to beat Philly twice and insure the division.
That seems pretty clear from the data out there.
A split with Philly seems likely but is also scary.
It is a razor thin margin because a lot of NFC teams look to be going 11 wins or better this year.

This isn't week 4, we are 11 weeks into the season and we know what teams are and what challenges lie ahead.

I didn't look it up, but this happens during the season, but by the end of the year. A division winner usually deserves to be there.
How many times has a division winner have a record as they should have missed the playoffs with other teams having better records.

It may have happened a few times, but probably not often. I have no idea though.

If the NFL were to eliminate this, then there should be no divisions, or just 2, 8 teams divisions. Then is it the 2 division winners, then best of the rest, or top 2 division teams, then the next best 2.
No matter how you do it, it's messed up.

Might as well have no AFC / NFC, just 4, 8 team divisions, then have a tournament style playoff. 12 teams or 16 teams, depending if you want byes for the better teams. 4 best teams gets byes on 12 team format.

Then could have the real 2 best teams playing each other. Like in 1992, could you see SF & Dallas playing for the SB, as in that NFC Championship game. Now that would have been ratings....

Well that's great news

Exactly.

Just like the last 3 seasons..

we've had our fate in our own hands.

Outstanding.

Now let's go get it.

For once.

And let's put it all behind us.

Oh..

and let's get Dez and DeMarco signed.

Those two guys ARE our team and identity.

And Romo.

Philly needs to beat Dallas as well. I am not really sure why so many have bought into the Eagles being one of the top teams. They have plenty of flaws and a few of them the Cowboys can take advantage of.

What does this post even mean? I'm asking what reason there is to make threads about where the Cowboys would be if the NFL had a 10 game season.

It's like when people go "well we're TECHNICALLY in first place because our division record is better..." when all the division games haven't been played yet, rendering any kind of tiebreaker to be pointless.

It means, people look after 10 games, or 9, or 12. And say, if this team beats that team, and we win, we have a better chance of getting into the playoffs.
Fans don't wait until the last game. It's like looking at the schedule when it comes out, before the draft, and predict wins and losses.

Everyone does it. And if they say they don't, I have some "property" I would like to sell them.

If Romo is healthy for both? Uh....*raises hand*

That's a HUGE QB advantage for us. HUGE.

If the outcome of the game was based purely on who has the better QB, then the Green Bay Packers would never lose a game.

Are you saying that Rodgers is better than Payton Mannning? I thought everyone thought that Manning is the one that is the best and would never lose a game? lol

Yes, Rodgers is the best all around QB in the game IMO.

Well, I really can't argue about that! He is damn good, and one time I made a post about how I thought he was the best or one of the best and I got tared and feathered for that!

The 10 games that have been played will count every bit as much as the 6 to come.
There are no do overs.

Dallas will NOT have the tie-breaker over SF or ARIZ. That's just done.
They would over SEA.

So, no those tie breakers won't change or become important only week 17.

Others can and will as more games are played but the games already played count towards those totals.
Because Dallas has so many NFCE games left to play they certainly control their own destiny but there is a lot to be said about where the team is through 10 games and about what it may well take to finish as a high seed.
If it is this hard to handle that mentally why read much less post in this thread discussing CURRENT SEEDING.
