This season will tell us who Jason Garrett really is as a coach(if he can have one of his top 2 qb for an entire season)

Say what you will about JG, but the talent has greatly improved under his watch, and it looked as if he had turned a corner in 2014.

Some will put the 4-12 debacle all on him, despite the worst qb play in recent memory.

But lets take a look at a team you Cowboys fans would envy to be: The 2013 GB Packers played about 8 games without Aaron Rogers. They lost five of them and tied an another. And one of those victories came courtesy of a Tony Romo late game blunder.

Educate yourself:http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/gnb/2013.htm

Compare Flynn's stats to Matt Cassell:http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/2015.htm

I truly believe we would've won 7 or 8 had they stuck with Weeden.

Late game blunder? Or Garrett's absolute refusal to run the ball the 2nd half, despite the fact our run game (Murray) was the reason we were up 24 points?
You're right. Callahan was calling the plays though. Haven't you noticed we've become a ground and pound team under Linehan. I believe Garrett has had little to do with the play calling since Jerry took the duties away from him.#myopinion

That doesn't excuse Romo though.

With the injury to Romo, it's safe to say we are going to see what Garrett is made of and what he is capable of this season.

He's just a good young rookie QB this time around, the best offensive line in the NFL, and a great set of offensive weapons.

If he goes less than 8-8 this season, no matter the circumstance, I think this might be it.

Frankly, if this team is going to start fresh with Dak in 2017, I'd like to see it down with a new coach.

Disclaimer: I know this a pre-mature thread.

The Romo injury probably bought Jason a pass unless the team is awful.

regardless of what happens this season garrett is going to still be here the gm and owner like him whether he is a good coach or not don't really matter.

If the offense puts up 23 points a game and they go 6-10, fire the gm, not the coaching staff. They barely addressed their massive need. Of course if you get rid of the gm, then we go back to the owner having unfiltered control and we know how that works for the standings.

Iam not ready to agree with this

I want to participate in these coach-bashing threads, but I don't have the energy to say the same things over and over in all of them. The issue generally hasn't been the coaching. The issue generally has been insufficient talent in a long rebuilding job. Overall, he's performed generally up to the talent level on the team. It's just taken them too long to assemble enough talent and it took him too long to put his defensive staff together.

To the poster who said he's never won in his career without Tony Romo, he was 5-3 with John Kitna the first time Tony broke his collarbone. What he can't win with is bad QB play and mediocre support from his defense. Which shouldn't shock anybody.

If Dak's going to play on a team that wins football games, they're going to have to support him a lot better than they supported Brandon Weeden last year. Across the board.

Very well said.

Football has always been about the talent on the field.

You are not supposed to agree with him. Just say that Garrett isn't a good coach, he likes that and jumps at the challenge of a pro-Jason debate!

Say the unthinkable happens and we start 1-8. Jerry fires Jason. Who would Jerry elevate from the assistant coaches to finish out the season as interim head coach?

garrett is not getting fired unless the team quits him at least we know what we have with him which is average with the gm we have its going to be really hard for him we had a hall of fame coach and he was little better than average here this gm will just hire another coach in training because his ego wont alow any thing else to happen.

Garrett will more than likely have to fail miserably before Jerry and Stephen see fit to divest themselves of his services. He will surely get a free pass this year, in light of the injury sustained by Romo. JG's tenure will only be cut short if he fails under practically ideal conditions for a much better year. Barring a dismally poor season both this year and next, I doubt JG's dismissal would be likely to happen until 2017 is in the books. Jerry and Stephen's high opinions of him would have to be crushed to even consider it.
