I don't buy the Jets having the best D. No way, me blokes, but our No. 2 looks awfully good.
And who would think the Commanders chaps would be No. 4???
And Bills ... 6???
Blimey! Fun reading until TC.

Holla
They do not mention the addition of Mazi which I find to be an important and glaring omission. they do a better job summarizing the additions and losses of the 49ers and Eagles.

For example as I have been saying myself:

8) Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles lost their starting duo of linebackers, an interior defensive lineman, both starting safeties, and defensive line depth. Nevertheless, keeping their cornerbacks and continuously adding to the defense in the draft in the previous two years has allowed them the flexibility to maintain their defensive edge — though not at quite the level they played at last year.

I predict the Eagles will no longer be a top 5 defense as well.

Ward is a huge loss for the 49ers. they now have two 4.6 athletes on the backend starting.

Jets defense is number 1? I get Quinton and Sauce are a great defensive linemen and cornerback duo but who is their second cornerback and outside pass rushers? San Francisco is the best with the best front seven in football. The Cowboys have the best overall defense with no real weaknesses.

All NFL defenses suck and you can’t rely on them because the rules make the game offensive.

Our offense has to step up.
The Cowboys defense was outstanding in the playoffs as was the Eagles until they played on that messed up Super Bowl field. Defense is what is going to get us to the Super Bowl if we get there.

All these rankings means nothing. What’s on paper and what transpires on the field is very different. I have faith that Quinn will have the defense ready to go. Unfortunately another season is going to come down to Daks arm.
Noodles will be ready to carve those defenses up like chop liver baby!!!!
The defense just has to keep opposing teams to under 10 points and we win baby!!!!

With our pass rush and DB’s, we very well may lead the league in turnovers produced. Number one defense is certainly in play.
Turnovers are a gift of the gods, sometimes they smile on you, other times they spit on you.

Right on cue, the same culprits with the same childish remarks.

AC, isn’t it easier to put them on ignore than respond to it If it bothers you?

I don’t have to put anybody on ignore because absolutely nobody’s comments bother me and I don’t complain about it…….if it did bother me I would

Most of the issues and divisiveness we have here is people complaining in posts about other people posts

and I mean this sincerely.

I never thought of how much expectation there is for this defense to be at least top 3. If it say 10th in the league it is going to be a very disappointing year.

Jets quietly improved as the season went on. I can see why some will think the defense will be better. Also could be the AR factor. A better offense can help the defense in this case.
I can see Dallas in top 5 for sure, and even at 2 or 3.

Remember all of this is based on speculation of the off-season changes.

Finally someone has the Eagles dropping as they lost a lot of starters, and their DC.
Not buying SF that high though. They lost starters and depth and their DC. They did not replace anyone on defense.

Washing on at #4, don't buy that either, yes they may have some good numbers, but for the past 3 years they feasted on weaker offenses, famished on stronger offenses. Most of the time anyway.
Then there was game 17 last year against whatever Dallas threw out there in a very weak attempt.

The Marinelli style defense was the absolute worst concept for today's day and age. "Bend but don't break" is really just "let the opponents march down the field and hope they get a holding penalty or do something stupid". Most of the NFL has enough talent to score when you basically let them. Even when it succeeds, you set your offense up for a long field after a punt.

Quinn and the Cowboys seem to get it now. The idea is to get the opposing QB to make a mistake. Both teams get the ball about the same number of times. The winner of the game is the one who scores the most per possession. Disguise your coverage, pressure him, etc. If you can achieve that you might get a turnover or at least a quick punt. Not only do you take away one possession for the opponent but hopefully you set your offense up for an easy 7. The Cowboys did that a lot last year.

That said, its still up to the opposing QB to make that mistake. If he simply doesn't, then you are kind of screwed and the rules are such that an offense can score almost no matter what a defense does. The offense HAS to score points in today's NFL in order to win. While I think this might be Dallas' best defense in decades, its not going to be an 85 Bears situation where they carry the team.

This time of year speculation is all we have. The NFL is a year to year thing. None of us know in July what kind of team anyone truly has until the real games start in September.

Yes what happened last year is a big factor in predicting this year. But anyone who follows the NFL closely knows, pre-season predictions are a crap shoot.
