We are not catching Philly

There is nothing this FO can do in the draft that can make up for the ground lost by sitting on their hands in the trade and free agency market. No, free agency is not over. But every top and middle-tier WR and TE are spoken for. Meaning Dak will have the same uninspiring set of WRs and TEs to throw to (plus maybe a green rookie). Meanwhile, on defense, we lost Hitchens and could lose Irving to a team like Indy (who is flush with money and can offer a huge long-term deal). Shaping up to be another hugely disappointing offseason. *Cue the player suspensions*

I have been highly critical of this FO quite a bit but between Lawrence and Martin your probably looking at close to 28-30 just for this year alone, assuming Martin gets something around 12 million a year. Are you going to pay Hitchens 9 million a year? Or give S. Watkins a 48 million dollar contract like the Chiefs are doing? No way, you just can't. Now if you want to criticize the Cowboys for past mistakes I will pile on and I am with you.

Did not want them to do either. However, I did want Moncrief/Richardson and/or Trey Burton. This team needs new receiving threats. And I don't mind the contracts they got.

Not only are we not catching philly, we are being left in the dust by other teams. FA will be a net negative for our team. All we will do is resign SOME of our own guys and lose others. Sign no one of significance. So as usual we will have to improve via 2nd year guys getting better and rookie draft picks. Not a great way to make leaps and bounds.

Your right. No other way to say it. Philly has clearly separated themselves from the pack in the division...we look stuck in the mud and hamstrung by one JJ.

If they can get the OL back dominating so Zeke can eat, and Dak can manage the game, that will cover up a lot of problems.
My main concern is if Dak can have success without Zeke. Injuries happen and the situation won't always be ideal.
The defense isn't too far from being good.

My guess is Philly is pushing to win consecutive SBs before their cap blows their team up. Philly was about $8 million over the cap coming into this season which is manageable, but it gets worse for them each year for the next 4 or 5 years. In another year or two they will need to dismantle their team to stay under the cap, just when Carson Wentz's rookie contract is up. Its not rally a bad strategy. Who wouldn't want to consecutive SB wins, even if it meant 2 or 3 lean years afterwards? They have a good strategy. They believe in building around their offensive and defensive lines. A dominant front makes up for a lot of weaknesses elsewhere.

Dallas is screwed to the wall with their cap. They are dealing with dead money every year thanks to stupid contracts and no long term planning. Next years its supposed to get better. Hopefully the Cowboys will be able to sign Lawrence and then Martin without screwing themselves to the wall again.

Out of curiosity, with them signing D-Law and Martin, who would you have liked them to sign that we could afford? By the way, D-Law and Martin count as FAs.

Their cap doesn't get worse it gets better, everyone thinks Philly is in cap trouble this year, they are not, they are slighly over which can be fixed easily. What people don't understand is that they already have everyone under contract, they actually managed it quite well. As of right now they are under the cap for next without any cap increases. They will unfortunately be fine

Nonsense. FA isnt over yet. Look at the recent free agent acquisitions this team has made over the pst few years

Look at all that talent. With JG as coach and Dak as qb, we are right there!!

That list of players is depressing.

Our FO is a joke and they will waste Zeke and our oline just like they did with Romo.

Great post as usual.

I think Philly is set up for a 2-3 year run but I think that Philly was thinking that they were falling behind Dallas after the 2016 season. Things in the NFL can change pretty quickly.

Lawrence and Martin do not count as FAs.

They are guys we already had. They maintain the status quo. A goal of FA is to try to bring in different players to improve the team.

That’s not Martin or Lawrence.

Philly had their moment. It's over. The way the NFL is set up today, with the possible exception of the Patriots, every team is an unknown going into any given season.

2017 is history. Every team is 0-0. The Eagles could just as easily go 7-9 as they could repeat as champions.
