we have failed miserably with Barber on real short 4th down plays...
why is JG so stubborn that he refuses to try something else
?

If they're so afraid of Romo getting injured on a QB sneak, then put Choice behind Gurode and have him sneak it. These long developing running plays to Barber aint cutting it.

It was so frusterating when they kept running it with Barber, he never makes it, you have to wonder about the play calling. They really need to work on their 3rd and short, 4th and a foot and 2 minute drills.

Perhaps the OLine could block in short yardage situations for a change.....

I really don't think we're going to run plays like this anymore when it really counts. I just can't see Garrett being so stupid.

I lied. I can. I just hope he's not going to be that stupid.

IMHO, they just didn't want to show anything to the Eagles. They ran everything last night, so vanilla. Other than that garbage reverse play. Why don't they train Austin or anyone for that matter to throw the ball away, instead of taking a huge loss, he's out of the pocket, is there a rule I'm unaware of?

My biggest question is why don't we run some of the other run plays we use to pick up four or five yards? Running a formation that puts all 22 players on the field inside a 10yd wide area isn't really smart unless you play action pass to a TE. Why not spread it out, making sure the safeties have to stay back and you can spread out the linebackers. I know we're just trying to get one yard, but if you pick up four yards on the play, bonus.

I've often wondered that on plays like that myself. It cant be called intentional grounding if you are outside the tackles, so just throw it away.

Maybe Austin has no throwing ability whatsoever and maybe thats why he didnt try it. Not everyone can throw. I remember Jimmy Johnson saying a couple of times when reporters asked why they never called a HB option pass with Emmitt that he had trouble even getting the ball to the LOS and was terrible at it, much less hitting a guy downfield.

I think it was the last play where Barber got stopped, but that came on a play where we had two WR's, 1 TE and a FB in the game. Both WR's were spread outside.

The Cowboys have had a player or two who have done this in the past. I believe Herschel Walker did it once.

Not just 4th and 1 but 3rd and 1 as well. It cost us the Charger game too.
I was watching the last replay. Barber does that weird hop thing he does. That is the worst time to do his hop thing, just take the ball and dive in for goodness sake, how do you juke when you need one foot to keep the drive going.

The last time I remember us running a QB sneak Romo did it on his own in a preseason game and Stephen Peterman blew out his knee.

If they want to continue to run on short distance at least bring in 4 wrs and spread the defense out. If they still stack the line Romo should have an easy completion to a wr.....just don't throw it to RW. :banghead:

Frustrating to watch Barber doing that, instead of the Barber we all remember. The guy that would run over anything and everything. Not stopping after the first 2 or 3 hits, especially late in a game. Haven't seen that Barber since Julius was here. It was consistant when Julius was here, we haven't seen that side of Barber in quite some time.

They need to run dives on 4th & inches not counters. Barber needs to run behind a fullback straight behind the guards. He stops after the handoff giving time for defenders to hit him. He is extremely slow hitting the hole sometimes.

What you don't appreciate Jason Garrett running right at Albert Haynesworth who wasn't even doubled on 4th down? :lmao2:

Barber has never been a good short yardage back.

I also wondered why Austin didn't throw it out of bounds. I hope you are right regarding the vanilla offense, but frankly, it was the same offense they ran against San Diego.

The bigger question is why run that stupid play in the first place. We had a 14 point lead and good field position, and we run a play that loses 13 yards on first down? Idiotic.

Barber is not a good short yardage back. He's way too slow to the hole. Too much juking and dancing around. Short yardage situations are about quick hits, not strength. Felix or Choice would be better in those situations.
